Paul McCartney - "Ecce Cor Meum (Behold My Heart)"
Artist / Press Release
In September 2006 Paul McCartney released his fourth full-length
classical album, Ecce Cor Meum (Behold My Heart). On Friday November 3rd
Ecce Cor Meum was given its world premiere performance to a sold out
audience at The Royal Albert Hall, London. In May of this year Paul was
presented with the award for Best Album at the UK Classical Brit Awards.
The special world premiere Royal Albert Hall performance is to be made
available for the first time ever on DVD, along with a documentary
tracking the journey and making of this album. The DVD will be released
through EMI Classics on Monday 4 February.
Ecce Cor Meum (Behold My Heart) was performed by Kate Royal (soprano);
Academy of St Martin In The Fields Orchestra; London Voices; Boys Of
Magdalen College Choir, Oxford and Boys of King’s College Choir,
Cambridge. They were conducted by Gavin Greenaway. This is the same cast
that appears on the studio recording.
The DVD also follows the story of Ecce Cor Meum (Behold My Heart). It
includes exclusive interviews with Paul and behind the scenes footage of
the recording of the album at Abbey Road and the preparation in the run
up to The Albert Hall performance. The album was more than eight years
in the making and its origins follow in the historic tradition of
composers that have been commissioned to write music for the
world-renowned Magdalen College Oxford. Paul was specially invited by
Anthony Smith (President of Magdalen College 1998 – 2005) to compose
something to set the seal on a new concert hall for the college. His
hope was for ‘a choral piece which could be sung by young people the
world over, in the same way that Handel’s Messiah is’.
In November 2001, the first version of Ecce Cor Meum was given its
preview performance by the Magdalen College Choir, which was conducted
by Bill Ives at the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford. This was a great
learning experience for Paul. “Eventually I made it all come together
through correcting a lot of misapprehensions – a lot was learned before
the Sheldonian performance, but a lot of it was learned afterwards. An
experienced choral composer knows that children can’t be given huge
sustained passages; they don’t have the energy and the stamina. At the
Sheldonian there was some quite hard stuff that I didn’t realize because
I’d done it on the synthesizer (which has endless stamina!), but during
that first performance the solo treble couldn’t come on for the second
half – I think I’d used him up in the first half! These are things that
people either learn because they are taught them immediately at the
first lesson, or you learn through the years, so it was good to go
through the piece a lot of times, and we took out huge choral sections
and gave them to the orchestra. If it had been a Beatles song I would
have known how to do it. But this was a completely different ball game.”

Van Halen - Guitar World
Press Release
As VAN HALEN prepared to kick off the second
leg of their incredibly successful tour, EDDIE and WOLFGANG VAN HALEN
recently sat down to talk to Guitar World in the magazine's first ever
father and son cover story.
Among the topics discussed are the ins and outs of playing VAN HALEN
music live, how WOLFGANG came into the band, what it's like for a
16-year old to play on some of the biggest stages in the world and much
more!
Due to hit newsstands on February 12, the 12-page spread is jam-packed
with color photos and features a detailed discussion with father and son
on what it's like to be band mates, their experience of being on tour
together in addition to detailing the instruments and touring equipment
they use. Also included, in honor of its 30-year anniversary, is a
retrospective overview of the making of the band's groundbreaking 1978
debut, "VAN HALEN."
Don't forget that ALEX VAN HALEN'S exclusive
21-page interview and photo shoot with Modern Drummer hits newsstands
everywhere on February 5.
In other news, by popular demand, VAN HALEN returned to the road on
January 22 for the second leg of the tour that began at Ford Center in
Oklahoma City, OK.
This portion of the tour finds EDDIE, DAVID LEE ROTH, ALEX and WOLFGANG
VAN HALEN performing in selected cities for the first time as well as
returning to others for encore performances.
Take it from Time magazine and its list of the top 10 live performances
of 2007 (VAN HALEN'S October 18th, 2007 performance at the United Center
in Chicago, Ill. ranks sixth) - "EDDIE VAN HALEN not only has the same
guitar chops he had two decades ago, he's got the same abs," writes
Time.com's Josh Tyrangiel, "and he even appears to be enjoying his
proximity to Diamond Dave. Just one more reason this belongs on a list
of the best performances of the year."
Make sure to see the show and decide for yourself because there's only
one VAN HALEN!

Asia - Phoenix
Email / Press Release
Geoff Downes, Steve Howe, Carl Palmer and
John Wetton have been busy in the studio, adding finishing touches to
their new CD "Phoenix", the first studio album from the band's members
since 1983.
Eagerly anticipated by fans all over the world, "Phoenix" contains an
eclectic selection of songs bound by the unique Asia trade mark.
In 1982, Asia's inimitable sound underpinned a 9 week domination at of
USA's Billboard charts. Only a couple of acts have been at number 1 for
longer.
The band confirms that "Phoenix" has been influenced by the same fusion
of talents and heritages which so excited the world in 1982.
"Phoenix" will include rockers such as "Never Again" and "Nothing's
Forever", power ballads such as "Heroine" and "I Will Remember You" and
a couple of mini-epics too, among a dozen new songs, The Asia reunion
was temporarily rocked when lead singer / bassist John Wetton underwent
an emergency triple heart by-pass in August last year. John was inspired
to write "An Extraordinary Life", based on such personal events, which
have made the concept of Carpe Diem dramatically pertinent.
The band is pleased that after 5 months in the studio writing and
preparing the album, it will be delivered to Frontiers on time, ready
for an April release, though the world tour which starts in March. The
UK shows will exclusively preview a couple of the new songs.

ZZ TOP - The ELIMINATOR (Collector's Edition)
Press Release
"That little ol' band from Texas" with the big sound, ZZ TOP shifted
gears in 1983 with the trio's eighth studio album, Eliminator. Creating
a new sound, the band subversively co-opted the humming synthesizers of
new wave and fused them to its trademark hot-rodded blues boogie. The
album roared into the MTV age powered by a trio of smash radio singles
and iconic videos that helped make Billy F Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank
Beard international superstars. Eliminator also holds the rare
distinction of being among the first group of albums to be awarded
diamond certification by the RIAA for sales of 10 million copies. ZZ
TOP's signature cherry-red 1933 Ford coupe returns to take a victory lap
with a special CD/DVD set to celebrate the album's 25th anniversary. The
set includes bonus tracks and previously unreleased live tracks, as well
as videos featuring the album's singles and rare live performances.
The ELIMINATOR (COLLECTOR'S EDITION) CD contains a remastered version of
the album's first pressing, including the rare original album version of
the Top 10 smash "Legs," which was replaced on subsequent pressings with
a single version edited for radio. Along with the hit singles "Gimme All
Your Lovin'" and "Sharp Dressed Man," the disc also features seven bonus
tracks. Five are previously unreleased live performances of songs from
Eliminator. The live tracks include "Gimme All Your Lovin'," "Sharp
Dressed Man," "TV Dinners," and "Got Me Under Pressure," all recorded at
Castle Donington in England as well as "I Got The Six," recorded at The
Marquee Club in London. The bonus tracks feature both the single and 12"
dance remix versions of "Legs." The deluxe packaging also features rare
photos and extensive liner notes from longtime ZZ TOP publicist and
confidant Bob Merlis.
One of the biggest albums of the '80s, ZZ TOP's Eliminator was also
responsible for creating some of the decade's most memorable videos by
mixing hot rods and hot bods. The DVD includes iconic videos for "Legs,"
"Gimme All Your Lovin'" and "Sharp Dressed Man." Known collectively as
"The Eliminator Trilogy," all three videos were directed by Tim Newman
and all starred the '33 Ford coupe, with the ZZ pinstriping down the
side, and a trio of leggy beauties. Also included is the video for "TV
Dinners," which starred a ZZ TOP-loving claymation alien named Zelt.
In addition to the videos, the DVD portion of ELIMINATOR (COLLECTOR'S
EDITION) includes five performances originally broadcast in England on
the popular music television program The Tube. The songs includes "Got
Me Under Pressure," "Gimme All Your Lovin'," "Sharp Dressed Man" and
"Tube Snake Boogie," a song that originally appeared on ZZ TOP's 1981
album, El Loco.

Saving Abel To Raise Cain On Tour With Days Of The New
January.17th.2008 - Thursday
In preparation for the March 11 release of their self-titled major
label debut from Virgin Records, southern rockers Saving Abel will hit
the road with Days of The New. The tour launches January 17 in
Charlotte, North Carolina and hits eight cities before wrapping up
January 30 in Atlanta (full schedule below).
Saving Abel will be touring behind their gangbuster single “Addicted,”
which recently received Top New Artist kudos from Clear Channel Radio.
The band wrote the infectious, sexually charged anthem for their 2006
self-released CD, but it didn’t stay underground for long; in no time,
radio stations across the country embraced the undeniable, hook-laden
tune.
Upon hearing the addictive track, Virgin Records felt so confident in
Saving Abel that they snatched them up and sent them into the studio
with accomplished producer Skidd Mills, who has previously worked with
artists including 12 Stones, Saliva, and Submersed. In no time, the band
– singer Jared Weeks, guitarists Jason Null and Scott Bartlett, bassist
Eric Taylor and drummer Blake Dixon – had recorded their major label
debut, which includes a newly recorded version of “Addicted,” as well as
the raunchy, hard-rockin’ tour tale “New Tattoo” and the aching,
harmonious “She Got Over Me.”
While “Addicted” has been the shot in the arm that catapulted Saving
Abel into the mainstream, the band wrote the track back in the early
days when singer Jared Weeks was still working at the local hospital
drawing blood. “I’d have to be there at 4:30 in the morning,” he says.
“I’d be walking around the hospital, singing ‘Addicted’ in my head,
writing down lyrics on patients’ napkins and doctor script pads.”
Weeks and Null formed Saving Abel – named after the Biblical sibling of
Cain – in 2004 in their hometown of Corinth, Mississippi. Influenced by
southern rock, hard rock and mainstream alternative, they went through
several musicians before arriving at their current lineup – the perfect
blend of chemistry and musical ability. The band’s first break came in
2005, when they hooked up with Mills, who produced their self-titled EP.
Since then, the band’s ascent has been rapid, and things are about to
get meteoric. Saving Abel plan to spend much of 2008 on the road
supporting their album and more singles, videos and promotional
appearances will surely follow.

Natalie Grant - Relentless
Press Release
Curb recording artist and GMA’s reigning Female Vocalist of the Year,
Natalie Grant, returns February 12 with Relentless, her highly
anticipated seventh album. Produced by Grant’s husband, Grammy
Award-nominee and Dove Award-winner Bernie Herms, as well as her
longtime collaborator, Dove Award-winner Shaun Shankel, Relentless is
Grant’s first studio recording in nearly three years.
Showcasing a more progressive pop/rock sound than ever before, Grant
wrote or co-wrote a majority of the project’s selections. Each song is
hallmarked by her continued desire to communicate a direct message of
Hope, honesty and purpose.
“I wanted Relentless to be more raw and edgy—more authentic and less
pristine,” Grant says. “Sometimes I think people assume women are
supposed to always sing the introspective, soft songs—which they do
beautifully—but I wanted moments where I could be bold and strong and
show there’s a powerful, passionate message that a woman could deliver.
That’s what I set out to do on Relentless.”
The project’s debut single, "In Better Hands," has already been a #1 hit
at Inspirational radio, and the song is currently #4 on R&R’s Christian
AC National Airplay chart.
Family Christian Stores is offering customers the opportunity to
pre-order Relentless at nationwide retail locations or via
www.familychristian.com. A portion of the proceeds from all
orders placed before February 12 will benefit Grant’s Home Foundation. A
priority of her ministry platform, Grant created The Home Foundation in
2005 to raise awareness of and help combat international human
trafficking.
Grant’s critically-acclaimed 2005 watershed release, Awaken, is
currently #4 on Billboard’s Top Pop Catalog chart, selling more than
8,000 units last week alone.
Christian music’s top-selling Adult Contemporary female solo artist in
2005 and 2006, Grant was the Gospel Music Association’s Female Vocalist
of the Year in both 2006 and 2007. One of the genre’s biggest names, she
is among a select few to have also achieved a formidable foothold at
mainstream media and radio.

January.15th.2008 - Tuesday
|
Band Update from Danny Craig... NEW ALBUM IS FINISHED!!! Yes kids, you heard it here first, and it'll be out before summer! We're still in mixing right now but we, management, the label are all very happy with how it turned out. We're looking to start touring this year in March/April and we're working on bringing a few new elements to the show as well. Hopefully you're excited, we definitely are! As for other things, the holidays were good, we all had a fairly low key Christmas and then off on the 27th to play a few shows in the cold Canadian prairies. We did Regina, Winnipeg, and Saskatoon on new years eve. All great shows, the latter 2 were with Buck Cherry, always cool to see those guys! We played 2 of the new songs, titles "Little Too Late" and "Goodbye" so maybe you can find a glimpse on You Tube or something. Or you can just wait a couple months and purchase the whole CD, then experience the songs in far better fidelity! So let's get geared up people, Default 2008 is coming! |

Best Of 2007 Awards
January.7th.2008 - Monday
The Best Of 2007 is our personal list of basically
everything we've looked at or have heard during the year. We pay tribute
to the best of the best in the music world as well as those who dropped
the ball. 2007 was an interesting year in music history as there were a
flood of band reunions, more Rock artists turned to the country side of
things and once again cover/tribute discs were released at a staggering
rate. Some have said this
year was power packed full of amazing music but to us this year showed
some good, tons of ugly material and some so awful we hate to
even bring them up again.
Shipwreck Island Studios.com grew to new heights in 2007 as the numbers
increased to an insane amount. We again saw a huge increase in visitors as well as
mentions on major websites scattered across the
internet. As we've said in the past, we are extremely humbled by all the
press. A major thank you to everyone who contributes information, our PR
contacts around the globe and last but not least... To all our readers
around the world.... Without you all there would be no drive to continue
to better ourselves. We'll continue to share our thoughts on the music
we love!
