Cease And Desist Against 4
Press Release
The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) was signed into law by
President Clinton in 1998 to disseminate and protect the arts in the
digital age. It makes illegal and prohibits the manufacture of any
product or technology that is designed for the purpose of circumventing
a technological measure which effectively controls access to a
copyrighted work or which protects the rights of copyright owners. Under
the DMCA, mere avoidance of an effective copyright protection solution
is a violation of the act.
MRT and BlueBeat have developed a technological measure which
effectively controls access to copyrighted material. That product, the
X1 SeCure Recording Control, has been tested by the industry's standards
bodies, the RIAA and IFPI, and has been proven effective against stream
ripping, while protecting privacy and limiting infringement liability
for users, distributors and academic institutions. It has been designed
for rapid deployment on a reasonable and non-discriminatory (RAND)
basis.
Therefore, Media Rights Technologies (MRT) and BlueBeat.com have issued
cease and desist letters to Microsoft, Adobe, Real Networks and Apple
with respect to the production or sale of such products as the Vista OS,
Adobe Flash Player, Real Player, Apple iTunes and iPod.
MRT asserts Apple, Microsoft, Real and Adobe have produced billions of
these products without regard for the DMCA or the rights of American
Intellectual Property owners, actively avoiding the use of MRT's
technologies. Failure to comply with this demand could result in a
federal court injunction to any of the above named parties to cease
production or sale of their products and/or the imposition of statutory
damages of at least $200 to $2500 for each product distributed or sold.
"Together these four companies are responsible for 98 percent of the
media players in the marketplace; CNN, NPR, Clear Channel, MySpace Yahoo
and YouTube all use these infringing devices to distribute copyrighted
works," states MRT CEO Hank Risan. "We will hold the responsible parties
accountable. The time of suing John Doe is over."

Surfing With The Alien - 20th Anniversary Set
May.9th.2007 - Wednesday
Press Release / Email
Surfing with the Alien was the album that ignited Joe Satriani's career
as a solo performer. The acclaimed guitarist's second full-length
release, Surfing with the Alien was originally issued in October 1987 on
Relativity Records. It became a left-field bestseller that reached No.
29 on the Billboard Top 200 and was certified Platinum for US sales of
over one million copies. It was the first rock guitar instrumental album
to reach Billboard's Top 200 Album Chart. It includes the charting hits
"Satch Boogie" and "Surfing With The Alien", plus the Grammy-nominated
"Always With Me, Always With You". Surfing ... launched Satriani on an
ever-evolving creative path: eighteen further audio and video releases
(nine of them certified gold and/or platinum) totaling over 10 million
albums sold worldwide, fourteen Grammy Award nominations, and multiple
world tours both as a headliner and as founder of the all-star "G3"
guitar extravaganza.
On August 7, 2007, Epic/Legacy Recordings will celebrate the 20th
anniversary of this groundbreaking album with the release of a new
expanded edition of Surfing with the Alien. This meticulously restored
two-disc set includes the newly remastered album and a previously
never-before-seen live show filmed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in
1988. It will also feature new liner notes written by Joe and special
deluxe packaging featuring photos, notes and other memorabilia from
Joe's personal archive.
Disc One: The Album
This portion of the 20th Anniversary edition of Surfing with the Alien
contains the original ten-track album, newly remastered by Joe Satriani
and original album co-producer John Cuniberti, at The Plant Studios in
Sausalito, California. The ten songs were written and arranged by Joe
Satriani, who played guitar, bass, keyboards, percussion, and drum
programming on the original sessions.
"From 1979 through 1984," Satriani recounts, "I was in a band called The
Squares with John Cuniberti, who was our live engineer and also did our
demos, and Jeff Campitelli on drums. I self-released my first EP (Joe
Satriani) and then worked with John and Jeff on my first full-length
album, Not of This Earth. Relativity released that recording in December
1986 and after I played some new songs at a New York showcase in January
'87, the label gave me the go-ahead to make Surfing with the Alien.
"Through 1987, I was dividing my time between teaching guitar, playing
sessions, and working on my own tracks. We were so broke when we
recorded Surfing ... that there are no photos from the sessions-we
wouldn't spend money on pictures if we could rent a cool piece of gear
instead! We really thought it would be the last album that anyone would
let us make."
Following the release of Surfing with the Alien in October 1987,
Relativity execs urged Satriani to mount a tour as the leader of his own
band. Despite his misgivings ("I'd never done that-I'd always been in
rock bands with singers"), Joe assembled a trio and did two weeks of
dates on the East Coast and around Southern California in January 1988.
Before his own shows had concluded, Joe was recruited for a Mick Jagger
solo tour in support of the lone Stone's Primitive Cool album. For the
guitarist, it proved a valuable learning experience: "That tour kind of
rescued me. I learned how to perform from Mick, when and when not to go
over the top." In the summer of 1988, a newly confident Satriani joined
forces with bassist Stu Hamm and drummer Jonathan Mover for his maiden
voyage to the UK and Europe.
Disc 2: The Live DVD
The second disc of the 20th Anniversary edition of Surfing with the
Alien features a never-before-seen live show that captures Joe Satriani
performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 14, 1988 during the
bombastic Surfing with the Alien tour. Expertly backed by Hamm and
Mover, Joe tears through "Ice 9," "Satch Boogie," and "Circles" (among
other favorites from Surfing ... ) along with tunes like "Hordes of
Locusts" and "Rubina" from Not of This Earth. "It was my first trip to
Europe and the first of our four shows overseas," Satriani recalls. "I
was supposed to arrive at Montreux in time for sound check and play at
midnight on July 14. We had a direct flight from London to Switzerland.
"Because of something to do with Bastille Day, our flight was grounded
in Lyon, France-so my manager and I got off the plane, rented a car, and
drove six or seven hours to Montreux. We missed the soundcheck.
Fortunately, Carlos Santana and Milton Nascimento preceded our set and
they would not get off the stage.
"It was 4:15 a.m. when we finally hit. We led off with 'Ice 9' and after
the first eight bars, most people got up and left! I think it was just a
little too over the top for that time of the morning, and they made us
play a shortened set. When it was over, we went across the street to the
hotel, took a shower, and got into the car for an 8:00 a.m. flight back
to London to play two gigs.
"This show isn't anything like what you'd see me play today. But it's a
personal historical document and I've learned to appreciate the raw
energy of it. The set was mixed live-now we've expanded the sonic
quality and tried to make the performance come off as powerfully on DVD
as it did for us on stage that night."

Gavin Rossdale - Gone Solo?
Newsletter / Email / Misc.
We've been hearing for sometime now that Gavin had gone solo but there has been no information to share on the subject, until now. After doing some digging we have come to find out that he is in fact a solo artist now. Below is what was sent out via email (2 Weeks Ago) to those who subscribed to the Institute Newsletter.
"Hey everyone It's been some time. how are you? I wanted to let you know
what I have been working on and what's happening. First off- I am
setting up my new website at Gavinrossdale.com (not live yet but coming
very soon) And I am about to go in and record my first solo record. I am
working with the producer bob rock. We have a great band to do the
record and we start next week. We'll do half the record in la and the
other half in Hawaii, where he lives-on the north shore. So as you can
imagine I'm pretty excited about that. I have spent all of last year
writing-and Here goes. I have also done the theme for a new show on fox
called DRIVE. That song will be on the record and a taste of what's to
come.
I know I've taken silence to a new quiet but You knew I was up to
something. Kingston is magic by the way.
So- Check out the new song- Obviously it is only a small part of it but
You'll get the vibe.
Otherwise We're going to be getting the website going.
And we'll be making big sound. Thank you to all of you who came out and
supported INSTITUTE- I really enjoyed being in that band.
Chris is making this record with me. Stay tuned, more power to you.
Gavin"

Inga Brittingham - Comments
Artist Comments
Inga Brittingham of the Naked Baggars has placed the following information on her MySpace page. This coming after the recent fallout of Jeff being let go by the band.
Inga's Comments:
I wanted to share our past few weeks w/ family, friends, and fans.
Recently I know you may have heard some strange things about why we
decided to part ways w/ Jeff LaBar. I wanted to clear up any
confusion. Yes, the day that it went down, Jeff and Eric got into a
little fight. This however, had nothing to do with the fact that I
decided to let Jeff go. Please do not let this parting leave you
with any distaste for neither Jeff nor Eric. We were all like
family. And I still love Jeff. However, it was definitely time for
us to move on. And even when Cinderella decides to tour, Naked
Beggars will continue to tour. We are excited for our 3rd album,
"XXX", to be released hopefully by the end of the summer.
And we wish Jeff all the best! And of course, much success for Jeff
and Debby's radio show! I will always say, he's definitely not
boring!!
And by the way, since we have been playing as a 4 piece, we realized
what a commodity Kris has been to the band. He has grown as a guitar
player and writer by leaps and bounds. This is also partly due to
having Jeff in the band!
Thanks, Jeff!
And thank you to everyone! Hope to see everyone this summer!!! We
will be ready to hit the road hard!

Set
against the frenzied world of heavy metal superstardom, the cofounder of
the most legendary rock band of the eighties—Mötley Crüe—offers an
unflinching and utterly gripping look at his own descent into drug
addiction.
Few bands were as influential as Mötley Crüe in making the 1980s the
heavy metal decade. Theirs is a cyclonic story of runaway success and
its price, blending outrageous record sales and arena headline tours
with smashed up cars, jail sentences, models, drugs, breakups, reunions
and more breakups.
In this candid memoir, Nikki Sixx—Mötley Crüe’s bassist and main
songwriter—recounts the band’s heyday. The Heroin Diaries takes readers
along on one of the most breathless and harrowing roller coaster rides
in the history of pop music. At its heart lies the author’s nightmare
come true: a punishing heroin addiction that brought him and the band to
the edge of losing much more than just their spot on the charts. Serving
up snapshots of rock culture at its most manic, this insider’s look at
triumph and tragedy is every bit as explosive as the musical odyssey it
chronicles.
Nikki Sixx was born Frank Feranna in San Jose, California, in 1958 and
grew up in Seattle with his grandmother. At the age of seventeen, he
sold his guitars and took a bus to Los Angeles, where he began hanging
out in local clubs and playing in bands. He founded Mötley Crüe in 1981
with friend Tommy Lee. Today he’s a family man with numerous projects in
the works, including songwriting for other artists, a movie, a new band,
a clothing line, and ongoing work with “The Crüe.” Ian Gittins has
written about music and pop culture for The New York Times, The
Guardian, Time Out, and The Daily Telegraph, among other publications.

Kevin DuBrow Sets The Record Straight
Artist Release
Kevin DuBrow on the Randy Rhoads Film Project:
"THE TRUTH, THE WHOLE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH."
As anyone who really knows me will tell you, I adored Randy Rhoads. In
my life Randy Rhoads and Frankie Banali have been my 2 dearest friends.
Friendship means everything to me and I take it very, very seriously. If
not for the start that Randy gave me I would not enjoy the career that
still supports me well to this day. I miss his hilarious personality and
not a day goes by that I don't think of him. I would have loved to have
be involved in a accurate film about Randy who is still my favorite
guitar player and best friend.
When Dakota films director Peter Margolis called me to be involved in
the proposed Randy Rhoads documentary I was hesitant to say the least.
With a recent book full on inaccuracies based on the authors opinions
rather than facts about Randy was released, I was apprehensive at best.
I relayed to him that my biggest concern was for the film to be totally
about Randy and not about others trying promote a book or new album and
their own personal agendas at the expense of associations with Randy be
it real, fabricated or imagined. Unlike others involved and contrary to
what some may believe, I have no ulterior motives.
Peter assured me that this would not be the case. I told him that I have
arguably the most accurate and complete memory from those years and
would be willing to provide him with any and all of the massive amount
of archival material in my possession which is extensive.
After being advised to do some careful investigation on my part, a few
days later I realized that this film and some of it's participants
indeed had their own over riding priorities and Randy would not be
represented as accurately or in many ways in a truthful manner. Then and
only then did I decide to bow out.
The recent article from Guitar World titled "Randy Rhoads gets the
Shaft" and the Blabbermouth post titled "Randy Rhoads dissed by former
band mate" is when I truly realized that my sources were accurate in how
this film would be handled. In all the five years that I played with
Randy we never once had an argument and spent many hours playing around
in the Hollywood area. In a million years I would not have a negative
thing to say about Randy. He was the greatest guitarist I ever knew and
worked with and one of the two most beautiful people I have had the
privilege to share both my personal and musical life with.
Below please find the original letter that I sent Peter Margolis via
e-mail:
To: Mr. Peter Margolis/Dakota Pictures
Peter,
Please accept this e-mail as my formal notice to decline your kind offer
to participate in your planned film project "Randy Rhoads Documentary"
that you previously approached me about.
It is my continued devotion and affection for the memory of Randy Rhoads
and our time together that dictates that I keep those memories and
feelings private so that they are not misconstrued as an attempt to
monopolize on either Randy's life or his untimely passing.
I will continue to hold Randy's memory dear and private as always. I
wish you much success in this worthwhile endeavor. Do Randy's memory,
family and legacy proud.
Sincerely,
Kevin DuBrow
(End of Letter)
While I do wish them success with the film, my protective feelings for
the memory of Randy will not allow me to be a part in this in any
manner.
With no disrespect intended to all involved, wouldn't it be a fitting
tribute to the memory and greatness that still is Randy Rhoads for the
film makers and everyone involved to decree that all the proceeds and
profits from this film after legitimate non-inflated artists or
production cost be designated as a gift to a charity chosen by the
Rhoads family? Or perhaps that profits from the film be contributed to a
Randy Rhoads music scholarship? What a fitting and selfless tribute that
would truly be! I guess I can dream, can't I..........?

The Steve Miller Band - Summer Tour
May.2nd.2007 - Wednesday
Press Release
The Steve Miller Band will launch an extensive North American summer
tour on May 21st in Milwaukee, WI. Highlights include two nights (July
13th & 14th) at Chicago's Ravinia, a 17,000 capacity venue that the band
sold out last year in less than 24 hours, and a hometown show on
September 22nd at Mountain View, CA's Shoreline Amphitheatre (where the
band filmed the concert contained on the DVD from 2006's 30th
Anniversary Edition Fly Like An Eagle). The October 6th stop at Los
Angeles' Greek Theatre will mark the band's first concert in Los Angeles
County in nearly a decade. Prior to the tour's kick-off, the band will
play the 2nd Annual Matt's Promise Benefit Concert on May 16th in New
York City. Matt's Promise is dedicated to making a difference in the
lives of young people affected by cancer and other terminal illnesses.
One of the original jam bands, the Steve Miller Band emerged from San
Francisco's summer of love with a sound that was distinctively different
from its peers. Forty years hence, the band is still a mainstay of the
summer concert season -- as fresh and vibrant as ever, melding rock,
blues, jazz and pop in its own inimitable, improvisational style and
attracting a fervent, multi-generational following. The band's songs
have been recorded by a diverse group of artists that includes Smashing
Pumpkins, deftones, Seal, Run-D.M.C. and k.d. lang.
With over four million albums sold to date, 1976's Fly Like An Eagle
became the Steve Miller Band's biggest-selling studio album. (The band's
Greatest Hits 1974-1978 has been certified 13-times Platinum.) Fly Like
An Eagle spent nearly two years on the Billboard 200, peaking at #3 and
yielding the Top 40 singles "Rock 'N Me," which was the band's second #1
single (following 1973's "The Joker"), the title track, which reached #2
on the pop charts and #20 on the R&B charts, and "Take the Money and
Run," which peaked at #11. Last year's 30th Anniversary Edition Fly Like
An Eagle served as both a potent reminder of the album's seminal place
in rock history and the band's enduring live appeal.
"At the core is his prodigious talent, from his languid guitar playing
to his vocal ease and purity of pitch, coupled with a seductive, lazy
charm and his genius as a social commentator," said the San Francisco
Chronicle. "This re-release, with three bonus tracks and live 2005
concert DVD, shows how vital a performer Miller remains and how he
presaged a generation of heartland rockers, from John Mellencamp to Tom
Petty to Widespread Panic." The Steve Miller Band's 2006 tour was one of
the most successful in the band's history, attracting record crowds.
Highlights included the headlining slot at Honolulu's Diamond Head
Crater celebration. The band was one of the first groups to play inside
the Crater in the 1970s and was honored to play at its first festival in
decades. Earlier this year, the Steve Miller Band played a free show in
New Orleans at the request of the New Orleans Saints. Over 30,000
attended the event and Miller sang the national anthem at the playoff
game thereafter.

Fans Want Hollywood Star For "Weird Al"
Press Release
Fans of "Weird Al" Yankovic are raising money so they can walk all over him. The Weird Al Star Fund is seeking donations to nominate Yankovic, the clown prince of rock and roll, for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
More than 2,000 motion picture, television, radio, theater and recording
artists are honored with stars. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce
announces selections for new star recipients annually in June.
The Weird Al Star Fund (www.WeirdAlStar.com)
is being undertaken with the written blessing of Yankovic. Funds
collected will be used for the $25,000 sponsorship fee that must be paid
if Weird Al's nomination is accepted. Since the fund's launch in 2003,
the volunteers have raised more than $17,500 from donations, merchandise
sales (www.CafePress.com/WeirdAlStar)
and various eBay auctions.
"While we are not above begging, we also decided to sell weird stuff to
raise the $25,000," says David Rossi, founder of The Weird Al Star Fund.
"This is our way of thanking Al for the decades of entertainment he has
given us. We feel he really deserves a star, and we are asking for the
help and support of all of his fans to make this happen."
Rossi, 32, is noteworthy among Weird Al fans for his tattoos of the
signatures and likenesses of Weird Al and three of his band members. The
idea for The Weird Al Star Fund came to Rossi, a computer programmer for
a New Jersey insurance company, during a visit to Hollywood when he was
interviewed with Yankovic for a VH-1 special about tattoos. While
visiting Hollywood Blvd., it struck Rossi that Yankovic was of the same
caliber as many of the entertainers honored with stars on the Walk of
Fame.
Is Yankovic Walk of Famous enough to deserve the star treatment?
Yankovic, 47, is best known for his parodies of the biggest stars in the
musical universe, including Madonna, Michael Jackson, Sting, Puff Daddy,
and Eminem. Yankovic's 12 comedy music albums have won three Grammy
Awards and received more than 28 gold and platinum album certifications.
His Top 10 Billboard album ("Straight Outta Lynwood") and single ("White
& Nerdy") were both released in 2006, nearly three decades into his
career. He has appeared in numerous television specials and written and
starred in the 1986 cult classic feature film "UHF."
