VH1 Classic Celebrating Some Of America's Most Influential Music Icons

VH1 Classic is celebrating some of America's
most influential music icons from all regions of the United States this
July 4th weekend. Beginning on Thursday, July 3 through Sunday, July 6
the network will "Rock Across America" and dedicate one day to each
region of the country including the East, Midwest, South and West. The
4-day marathon will include some of the greatest concerts known to the
rock 'n' roll world and will give an all-access look into the lives of
these American music greats that helped shape the classic rock culture.
Throughout the holiday weekend that celebrates America, classic rock
fans across the country will be able to relive the memories with artists
like Bruce Springsteen, James Brown, KISS, The Temptations, Tom Petty,
Heart and more.
Highlighted programming to air throughout the weekend include:
The East
"VH1 Storytellers: Bruce Springsteen" Airs on Thursday, July 3 at 3:30
PM ET/PT
New Jersey singer/songwriter Bruce Springsteen gives fans the
performance of their lives as he performs songs from his album "Devils &
Dust." Viewers will get a unique opportunity to hear the inspiration and
stories behind such hits as "Blinded by the Light," "Brilliant Disguise"
(which he performs with his wife Patti Scialfa), "The Rising," "Thunder
Road" and from his new album the title track "Devils & Dust" and "Jesus
Was An Only Son." The acoustic show ends with questions about Bruce's
life and work.
"KISS Unplugged" Airs on Thursday, July 3 at 6:00 PM ET/PT
The KISS nation will get a chance to rock hard with original and current
members of the legendary New York City rock band KISS. For a full hour
fans can watch a makeup-free KISS play some of their greatest hits
acoustically with Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter
Criss reuniting to play tracks like "Rock and Roll All Night" and
"Nothing To Lose." Fans will also get to see current members Eric Singer
and Bruce Kulick join the crew to belt out songs like "Comin' Home" and
"See You Tonight."
"VH1 Classic in Concert: Poison: Live, Raw and Uncut" Airs on
Thursday, July 3 at 8:00 PM ET/PT
Poison performs at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in St. Louis on
August 2, 2007. This Pennsylvania band performs some of their greatest
hits including "I Want Action," "I Won't Forget You," "Something To
Believe In," "Unskinny Bop," "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" and "Talk Dirty
To Me."
The Midwest
"The Temptations" Airs on Friday, July 4 at 6:00 PM ET/PT
The true story of The Temptations, the Soul vocal group of the 1960s, as
seen from the viewpoint of the last surviving member, Otis Williams,
played by Charles Malik Whitfield. The story begins in the late 1950s in
their hometown of Detroit and chronicles their humble beginnings to
their adventurous climb to the top and ends in the 1990s with the
untimely deaths of the remaining four members. Also starring are, D.B.
Woodside as Melvin Franklin, Terron Brooks as Eddie Kendricks, Christian
Payton as Paul Williams and Leon as David Ruffin.
"VH1 Classic in Concert: Styx" Premieres on Friday, July 4 at 11:00
PM ET/PT
Hailing from Chicago, Styx are one of the most successful bands of all
time with worldwide album sales in the millions. On May 25, 2006 they
took the stage in Cleveland for a new venture accompanied by the 115
piece Contemporary Youth Orchestra and a 60 member chorus. With a set
list that combined Styx classics, new songs and cover versions this was
a truly unique event.
The South
"VH1 Classic in Concert: ZZ Top Live from Texas" Premieres on Saturday,
July 5 at 4:00 PM ET/PT
This newest installment of VH1 Classic's "Classic In Concert" series
features ZZ Top captured at their very best in their home state of
Texas. Band members Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard deliver
hit after hit in their own imitable style.
"Rock and Rock Picture Show: Jailhouse Rock" Premieres on Saturday,
July 5 at 7:00 PM ET/PT
Starring Elvis Presley and Judy Tyler, "Jailhouse Rock" is a film about
an ex-convict, named Vince Everett, who upon release from jail, goes on
to not only start his own record label but become the shining star he
always thought himself to be. This is the classic story of a 'nobody
becoming a somebody' and belittling everyone around him in the process.
Humility
ultimately catches up to him and Everett finds out the hard way that
friends are more important than stardom.
"Soundstage: Tom Petty" Airs on Saturday, July 5 at 9:00 PM ET/PT
Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers hit the stage for a night of classic
rock and roll. This Florida band, recognized as one of the greatest
American rock bands performs some of their most memorable hits
including: "American Girl," "Don't Do Me Like That," "Free Falling," and
many others taken from a catalog of critically acclaimed albums. For
decades Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers have earned praise and adoration
from fans for their trademark brand of American rock and roll and their
refusal to compromise their integrity. The Band was inducted into the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002, the first year they were eligible.
The West
"John Fogerty: The Long Road Home" Premieres on Sunday, July 6 at 6:00
PM ET/PT
This comprehensive retrospective features, for the first time ever, all
of the California songwriter's most poignant and enduring hits. Included
are seminal tracks from the "Creedence" catalog, along with the creme de
la creme of his solo work, including "Centerfield," "Deja Vu (All Over
Again)" and "Hot Rod Hear" from the GRAMMY(R) Award-winning CD "Blue
Moon Swamp."
"Journey: Revelation" Premieres on Sunday, July 6 at 8:00 PM ET/PT
Live from the March 6, 2008 Las Vegas concert marking the first U.S.
public appearance of Journey's current lineup. San Francisco's own, Neal
Schon (guitar), Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Ross Valory (bass), Deen
Castronovo (drums) -- are proud to introduce fans all over the world to
their new lead singer, Arnel Pineda ('pin-eh-da'). He replaces Jeff
Scott Soto, who parted ways with the band earlier this year after
stepping in for Steve Augeri, who had to leave the band in 2006 for
medical reasons.
"Heart: Dreamboat Annie" Premieres on Sunday, July 6 at 10:00 PM

On April 17, 2007, the iconic rock group and Seattle natives, Heart took
the stage at The Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles in front of a live
audience to perform their spectacular 1976 debut album "Dreamboat Annie"

The past 30 years has seen Foreigner fill
arenas with big crowds and even bigger riffs. A constant fixture on the
radio and the charts throughout the '70s and '80s, Foreigner has sold
more than 70 million albums worldwide. On July 15th, Rhino will release
NO END IN SIGHT: THE VERY BEST OF FOREIGNER, a comprehensive hits
collection that includes both live and previously unreleased tracks. The
band will follow the release of their album with a co-headline summer
tour with Bryan Adams beginning in July.
The 32-song, two-disc VERY BEST OF FOREIGNER anthology is a fist-pumping
romp through the band's music (1977-present), from hard rocking early
hits ("Cold As Ice," "Double Vision," "Hot Blooded" "Feels Like The
First Time") and classic cuts ("I Want To Know What Love Is", "Dirty
White Boy," "Head Games," "Urgent") to later gems. In addition to the
parade of hits, the collection is bolstered with a new recording, "Too
Late," and a new acoustic version of "Say You Will," as well as recent
in-concert recordings of "Starrider" and the medley "Juke Box Hero/Whole
Lotta Love."
Disc 1 represents albums that combined, have sold 23 million in four
years; self-titled (1977); Double Vision (1978); Head Games (1979) and 4
(1981). The disc includes hits like the band's first single, "Feels Like
The First Time," and "Juke Box Hero."
The second disc opens with the band's brand new track "Too Late," and
includes "I Want To Know What Love Is," Foreigner's #1 smash from the
group's 1985 3X platinum album Agent Provocateur. The selections on the
second disc also draws from Inside Information (1987), Unusual Heat
(1991) and Mr. Moonlight (1995) and includes favorites such as "I Don't
Want To Live Without You" and "That Was Yesterday." Featured as well on
Disc 2 are the new version of "Say You Will" and the live recordings of
"Starrider" and "Juke Box Hero/Whole Lotta Love."

U.S. television premiere of "Saving the American Wild Horse" -- a
poignant documentary directed by Emmy® Award-winning documentary
filmmaker, James Kleinert -- on the network's "Primetime Premieres"
programming block Monday, July 7, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Produced by Moving
Cloud Productions, the film features Academy Award®-nominee Viggo
Mortensen and Grammy® Award-winner Sheryl Crow and is narrated by Emmy®
Award-winner Peter Coyote. DOC is available on DISH Network (Channel
197), and several broadcast stations in major markets including NYC TV
(Channel 25) throughout the greater New York metropolitan area.
Keinert's 27-minute documentary short examines the politics behind the
Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) controversial policies regarding wild
horses on public lands and questions the fate of America's wild horses
and burros, whose very existence is in jeopardy. The original score
features music by Rick Allen (drummer of Def Leppard), singer-songwriter
Lauren Monroe, Craig Sutter, Keith Secola, Robert Mirabel and Preston
Pope.
Featuring interviews with scientific experts, ranchers, historians, wild
horse owners, animal rights activists, environmentalists and others,
"Saving the American Wild Horse" examines the origins and effects of the
recent "Burns Bill," which gutted the Wild Free Roaming Horse and Burro
Act of 1971 and cleared the way for slaughter and removal of a vast
majority of the wild horse herds. The film exposes the current massive
Western land grab by oil, gas and mining corporations exploiting more
than 30 million acres of natural Western lands in the areas of New
Mexico, Nevada, Colorado and others. As a result, the current land
exploitation is affecting all wild life species including the American
wild horse.
"My interest in documenting American's wild horses began while working
on my film 'Spirit Riders' about the birth of an American Indian peace
movement, as well as learning about the removal of these beautiful wild
animals while living in Wyoming," says Kleinert. "I'm excited for the
opportunity to share my five year journey on Documentary Channel, and I
hope this film will not only educate viewers about the disturbing,
massive removal of our horses but to inspire change to the future of
these precious animals."

Echo Jet Gears Up To Release Self-Titled Debut June 10

Emerging rock band ECHO JET, fronted by
songwriting team, Denny & Kenny Scott, are set to roll-out their
self-titled The Machine Records debut on June 10, featuring the hot, new
single "WAVE." The sunny, feel-good, "pop artistry" of "WAVE," now
picking up adds at radio, is the essential soundtrack of summer,
illuminating the anticipation of good times to come. The Scott brothers,
who first hit success with the catchy hit "Hey Now Now," will perform
live at their record release party on June 18 at L.A.'s Roxy on the
Sunset Strip. The band will tour this summer in support of Echo Jet,
with tour dates to be announced shortly.
"We are excited to be part of a new label, in a new era, of the music
business." Stated founding members Denny and Kenny Scott. "The Machine's
focus on the music and on artist development is the reason we're here.

ECHO JET is a five-piece band that places great emphasis on the art of
songwriting (great melody, cool guitar lines, interesting lyrics) and
takes its cue from songwriting-driven bands such as U2, INXS and Tears
For Fears. The Scott's have spent many years developing their craft and
becoming proficient in the studio, which has paid off with film and
television song placements, along with an appearance in the Drew
Barrymore film "Never Been Kissed," among others.
The LA-based band includes: Denny Scott, lead vocals; Kenny Scott,
rhythm guitar and vocals; Josh Dunahoo, lead guitar; Jon Hastings,
drums; and Joey Clement, bass.
ECHO JET is signed to The Machine Records, headed by Industry Vet
Michael Reynolds, with publishing and licensing handled by the Machine's
Rhonda Bedikian. The group is managed by Jamie Talbot of Sanctuary
Artist Management.

Crash Kelly Has One More Heart Attack

In the five years since Toronto-based guitar slinger Sean Kelly recorded
the first Crash Kelly song in his modest home studio, he has exploded
from down and dirty clubs to arenas, amphitheaters, and other major
venues in North America and Europe. July 29, 2008 will mark the U.S.
release of his much anticipated third CD entitled, "One More Heart
Attack".
Kelly's first two album outings, "Penny Pills" and "Electric
Satisfaction" helped Crash Kelly procure industry acclaim and tours with
rock luminaries including, Alice Cooper, Quireboys, Backyard Babies, as
well as support slots with Mötley Crue, Poison, Cinderella, W.A.S.P.,
and many other hard rock heroes. Crash Kelly is currently embarking on a
tour across Canada (U.S. dates to be announced) with ex-Guns N' Roses
axe man Gilby Clarke, who also produced half of the new tracks on the
"One More Heart Attack" album.
Crash Kelly comes by its' influences honestly. Weaned on Aerosmith, the
Rolling Stones, KISS, and T-Rex, a young Sean Kelly quickly became
enamored with the sound of twin guitars, slamming rock beats, and arena
based rock n' roll courtesy of his older sister's music collection.
However, the band's hard rock musicality is not lost on the fact that
frontman Sean Kelly is a formally trained guitarist who has also enjoyed
success releasing a number of classical acoustic CDs. When Yamaha
Guitars (www.ClassicRocks.ca)
commissioned their newly launched handcrafted guitar series, they asked
if Kelly would consider representing their line of custom products.
"I was flattered to be considered by Yamaha," he recalls, "and I will
enjoy being their classical guitars spokesperson." When not rocking the
live venues, Kelly also actively produces and composes jingles, most
recently being heard on a Pontiac commercial broadcast throughout venues
across Canada. Additionally, in 2005, Sean was selected out of thousands
of entries by Guitar Player magazine to perform at the inaugural Guitar
Hero Competition. As a Top 10 finalist, Sean performed at the Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, in front of celebrity judges
Joe Satriani and Steve Lukather.
To bring his latest musical vision to fruition, Sean has assembled what
he considers to be the best Crash Kelly line-up to date. Long time band
mate, Allister Thompson on bass, Gene Scarpelli on guitar, and Tim
Timlech on drums all contribute stellar performances both on stage and
recorded on "One More Heart Attack". The CD also features Rudy Sarzo (Ozzy
Osbourne/Quiet Riot/Whitesnake), Brian Tichy (Foreigner/Billy Idol), as
well as songwriting contributions from Pursuit of Happiness' main-man
Moe Berg.

JOURNEY's new three-disc CD/DVD package REVELATION has sold more than
104,000 copies in its debut week according to Wal-Mart Stores, marking
the band's biggest first week's sales since 1996's TRIAL BY FIRE.
Released June 3, REVELATION is being sold exclusively at Wal-Mart and
Sam's Club in North America, Walmart.com and Samsclub.com, and Journey's
official website, Journeymusic.com. REVELATION's first week's sales
marks a 1400% increase over the band's 2005 first week's sales of
GENERATIONS.

REVELATION marks a new chapter in the legendary career of multi-Platinum

Away" and "After All These Years") and rave reviews, including the New

Cinderella Postpones Tour
Artist Release
Its with unbelievably deep regret that I must announce that Cinderella's
Tom Keifer's left vocal cord has hemorrhaged, thereby making it
impossible for him to sing in the immediate future.
Tom felt his throat give way last night (6/11) finishing the set in
pre-production rehearsals, went to his vocal doctor (Dr. Stephen
Mitchell) in Nashville this morning, and was told the grim news. In the
short term, Tom's was told it would be two to three weeks before the
swelling and damage would recede to a point to where an assessment can
be made as to whether surgery will be required.
Consequently, and again, most regretfully, we have no choice but to
postpone the upcoming Cinderella tour until such time as Tom is ready
tour again.

anticipated STARBREAKER second album "Love's Dying Wish" on August 1st
2008.
Starbreaker's self-titled debut album caused a stir in the Hard Rock
world, upon its release in spring 2005. Featuring world renowned
musicians such as singer Tony Harnell (TNT, Westworld, Morning Wood),
guitarist Magnus Karlsson (Allen / Lande, Primal Fear), bassist/producer
Fabrizio Grossi (Glenn Hughes, House of Lords) and John Macaluso (Malmsteen,
TNT, Ark) on drums, the record garnered enormous acclaim and was
featured as the cover story on the prestigious "Rock It" magazine in
Germany, with fantastic reviews World wide.
Following Harnell's departure from TNT in 2006, Tony took a little time
off the business to spend time with his family and write songs. In late
2007 he flew to Sweden to write the bulk of the songs for the new album
with Karlsson and started the recording of the new songs at the end of
the year. The highly anticipated brand new CD is entitled "Love's Dying
Wish" and is a true Hard Rock/Metal masterpiece. The album was written
and produced by Harnell and Karlsson and was mixed by respected producer
Tommy Hansen (TNT, Jorn, Pretty Maids, Helloween).
New bassist Jonni Lightfoot (a touring and recording veteran with
extensive credits to his name) replaced Grossi in the line up. He has
added a tasteful but aggressive touch to this magnificent piece of work
and compliments Macaluso's flashy drumming perfectly.

the Starbreaker debut left off. With a fresh diversity that spans from
pounding metal, to deep moody passages wrapped in a dark and beautifully

Blink182 Singer Releases Documentary Addressing Hiatus & Formation Of...

Start The Machine is a new, revealing documentary by singer Tom DeLonge
that addresses the breakup of his twenty times platinum band Blink-182
and the events that lead to a rock-n-roll movement of hope and the
formation of Angels And Airwaves.
'Start The Machine' is the in-depth personal account of the events that
lead former Blink-182 singer and guitarist Tom DeLonge to leave the 20
times platinum rock band to form his current group, Angels And Airwaves.
The film, directed by Mark Eaton of Restingbird Entertainment, follows
DeLonge through the first year of recording the Angels And Airwaves
debut album 'We Don't Need To Whisper'. The new film will premier one
night only on June 14, 2008 at La Paloma Theatre in San Diego and will
subsequently be released on DVD June 17, 2008.
In addressing the reason for the Blink-182 "indefinite hiatus," DeLonge
reveals the dramatic impact it had on his personal life and the music he
subsequently created. He also speaks for the first time about his hidden
addiction to prescription drugs and the backlash Angels And Airwaves
experienced as a result of his boastful statements in the press during
their album release. Viewers will be introduced to the other members of
the band, including Atom Willard, David Kennedy, former bassist Ryan
Sinn and current bassist Matt Wachter and hear their thoughts and
influence on the events that occurred during that time.
Eaton, who also directed the bands music video 'Secret Crowds', used
multiple formats while filming the documentary, including Super 8mm,
16mm and DV. By integrating these varying formats, he keeps the film
looking fresh and cinematic despite a vast majority of the film taking
place in a single room at DeLonge's home, which was transformed into a
recording studio for the band.
Additionally, 'Start The Machine' features work from the Emmy
Award-winning creative studio SHILO, who produced exciting CGI vignettes
to coincide with specific Angels And Airwaves songs that visually
portray the emotions that inspired the music.
Finally, the documentary uses stunning live performance footage from the
bands first headline tour to round out the films use of literal and
metaphorical accounts to explain the genesis of the band.

Extreme Announce First New Album In Thirteen Years

(June 9, 2008) New York, NY – This summer, EXTREME will release Saudades
de Rock (pronounced "sow-dodge"), their first studio album in thirteen
years which will coincide with their first world tour in over twelve
years. Saudades de Rock will be released on August 12th on Open E
Records and distributed by Fontana.
The iconic rock foursome - vocalist Gary Cherone, guitarist Nuno
Bettencourt, bassist Pat Badger and new drummer Kevin Figueiredo –
recorded their fifth studio offering at NRG Studios in Los Angeles with
Bettencourt at the helm as producer and mixer. Saudades de Rock boasts
13 tracks, including the infectious roar of "Star," the groove-laden,
swagger of "King", a raw funk rock anthem called "Learn To Love", and
the expressive ballad "Ghost."
"'Saudades' was always a beautiful word to me," Bettencourt explains
about the Portuguese album moniker. "It expresses a longing; an
underlying sadness for something or someone that's been missing in your
life, and never quite sure if it will ever return. In this case, for us,
it's Rock and Roll. Saudades de Rock."
Gary Cherone adds, "I like how it expresses that longing we've been
feeling to play for our fans and be together again."
The multi-platinum, Boston-bred band's 2008 'TAKE US ALIVE' world tour
gets underway on July 29th at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and will
be anchored by a hometown gig two days later at the Bank of America
Pavilion. In advance of the tour, Extreme will be a co-headliner on July
11th at the five day Rocklahoma Festival in Pryor, OK.

Danny Vaughn - From The Inside - Visions

Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of FROM THE INSIDE
second album "Visions" on August 1st 2008.
FROM THE INSIDE is the project that marked the start of the cooperation
between legendary Melodic Rock singer Danny Vaughn (Tyketto) and
Frontiers Records. Released in September 2004, the first album was
welcomed with great acclaim from both fans and press and it finally
brought Danny back to the classic Melodic Rock sounds. Together with
producer Fabrizio Grossi (Glenn Hughes, Starbreaker) he was able to put
together a finely crafted and top quality contemporary Melodic Rock
release.
In the winter of 2007, Danny and Frontiers Records President Serafino
Perugino once again discussed the production of a true Melodic Rock
record in the vein of classic Journey and Tyketto that could follow in
the footsteps of the successful debut - From The Inside. Fab Grossi was
again recruited and the two of them worked on the songwriting, along
with keyboardist Eric Ragno.
Danny says: "I always like the idea of a challenge that steps outside of
what I normally do. I have to approach the writing and performing of the
songs from a different angle than I would with my own stuff. Fabrizio
and I set out some guide lines of the type of songs that we wanted to do
and we kept coming back to the idea of doing an album with a real
Journey vibe. How challenging is that? Having just come off tour with
Journey themselves, I was in the right frame of mind to do that and I
think the 6 songs that he, Eric and I wrote together really show what
we're capable of. "From The Inside" was a very successful album with my
fans, so I was very interested in trying another one.
Let's see what they think!"
The songs were later complemented by additional killer tracks penned
especially for the album by Tom and James Martin (of Khymera, Ted Poley
and House of Lords fame), with "Love Is No Stranger" by Joey Carbone
(Joseph Williams) later added to the album, thus completing the
tracklisting.
Recording sessions finished in the winter of 2008 with Jimi Bell (House
of Lords), handling guitar duties and Peter Lobo on drums. Tommy Hansen
(TNT, Jorn, Pretty Maids, Helloween etc) took care of the mix in April.
The result is a truly amazing Melodic Rock album with a harder edge: a
flawless collection of extremely well-written songs, with tight
musicianship and the vocals... well, this just may be Danny Vaughn's
greatest vocal performance to date. "Visions" will absolutely take your
breath away.

L.A. Guns Featuring Tracii Guns Adds Marty Casey To Lineup

The
rock 'n' roll band, L.A. GUNS, featuring guitarist Tracii Guns has some
big news heading into their Summer Blackout Tour 2008.
The band will be hitting the road this month with a couple of new
members on board. In addition to Tracii Guns on lead guitar, Jeremy Guns
will be on bass along with Chad Stewart on drums, and the band has
enlisted new rhythm guitar player Alec "Big Al" Bauer, who has been
touring with the band since 2007.
Marty Casey, the "new blonde guy," as the band has affectionately
referred to him on their website, is the new voice of L.A. Guns. Casey
gained recognition as a vocalist along with millions of fans during his
run on the hit CBS show "Rock Star: INXS." He was also instrumental in
writing and creating new material on the upcoming L.A. Guns album.
The boys of L.A. Guns have another "big gun" in their pocket. The band
is currently in Canada recording their new album with Multi Grammy Award
Winning Producer Steve Thompson. Tracii describes the album by saying,
"this definitely will not be your father's L.A. GUNS" and the music is
"slightly more advanced" and the lyrics are "more introspective, without
losing the fun nature of our Rock 'n' Roll."
L.A. Guns is currently signed with ALEXUS RECORDS. Look for these guys
on tour this summer with Faster Pussycat and Bang Tango as they blaze a
trail through a city near you.

signed to 19 Recordings / RCA Records and is preparing to start
recording his debut album which is due for release in fall 2008.

televising "The 46664 Concert Honoring Nelson Mandela at 90" taking
place in London's Hyde Park on Friday, June 27. The concert will also be

Brown, Robert De Niro, Forest Whitaker are among those who will attend
some of the events surrounding the three-day celebration in London which
culminates in the evening concert.
South African and African artists Johnny Clegg, Sipho Mabuse, Loyiso,
the Soweto Gospel Choir, Papa Wemba, Sudanese 'war child' rapper
Emmanuel Jal, and AIDS orphan choir: The Children of Agape will also
join in the celebration.
The concert proceeds will benefit Nelson Mandela's HIV/AIDS charity
46664 that he founded in 2002. "I am supposed to be retired but my
friends and the charitable organizations that bear my name want to use
my 90th birthday year to raise funds to continue our work and so of
course I want to help them," said Nelson Mandela.

The Bonham family tree is firmly rooted in musical tradition. First
was John Bonham, the esteemed drummer for Led Zeppelin, who was followed
by his son Jason, a skilled skinman in his own right. Add to that list
Deborah Bonham -- sister of John, aunt of Jason -- whose album DUCHESS
introduces her powerful blues-rock vocal chops to American listeners.
A celebration of soul, strength and family, the album -- Bonham's third
overall -- stands as her finest work. She rips through 13 original
compositions backed by her forceful working band-former Humble Pie
drummer Jerry Shirley, bassist Ian Rowley, keyboardist Gerard Louis, and
guitarist Peter Bullick. Each song showcases her soulful singing and her
effortless, sensitive approach to a gamut of styles, from blues and soul
to hard rock and English folk.
DUCHESS is the best showcase yet for Deborah Bonham's versatility. It
features the bluesy stompers "Pretty Thing," "Grace," and "Duchess & the
Shufflemeister"; the heart-ripping ballad "Love You So"; the
country-tinged lament "Blue" (featuring veteran pedal steel guitarist BJ
Cole); the folk-inflected "Chains" (featuring Fairport Convention's Dave
Pegg on mandolin) and a stand-out performance on "Hold On," a stirring
statement of self-reliance and faith that includes guest drummer Jason
Bonham and vocalist Paul Rodgers, the former frontman for Free and Bad
Company and now Queen.
The new, live-in-the-studio version of "The Old Hyde Revisited,"
available only on the digital version, is a subdued, moving tribute to
her father John Henry Bonham, Sr. and her brothers John and Michael, all
of whom passed away within years of each other. "We end every live show
with it," Deborah says. "Every time I sing it, it brings a tear to my
eye. It has that power. It gets me every time I sing it."
Deborah Bonham was first inspired to perform at the age of six after
seeing her brother perform with Led Zeppelin for the first time. But it
wasn't until after John's untimely death in 1980 that she decided to
take the plunge. Initially hesitant to take the stage, she says the
Bonham name was a double-edged sword: "I knew some people would think I
was just jumping on the bandwagon."
She eventually relented, releasing her U.K. debut, For You And The Moon,
to strong reviews in 1985. But she quickly soured on the music business.
It would be nearly 20 years before Deborah Bonham returned with her
follow-up, The Old Hyde, which was produced by Mo Foster (Jeff Beck,
Phil Collins) and featured Mick Fleetwood, The Pretenders' Robbie
McIntosh, Robbie Blunt and Dougie Boyle of Robert Plant's band, and
Jason Bonham.

winning singer/songwriter Rick Springfield will release a new studio
album on Tuesday, July 29. VENUS IN OVERDRIVE is the artist's debut
album on New Door Records/UMe and first full-length new studio work of
original material since 2003's critically acclaimed,
SHOCK/DENIAL/ANGER/ACCEPTANCE.
VENUS IN OVERDRIVE was recorded in a record 32 days by Springfield and
Matt Bissonette, Springfield's long time bass player. According to Rick,
"It is an album about love in all its forms, and since Venus is the
goddess of love, it's called VENUS IN OVERDRIVE. There is a lot of
personal stuff in these songs but we have tried to craft them so they
still have a
universal voice. We are older, yet still teenagers, we have lost people
we love and still love the people who are on our journey with us, we are
angry at some of the crap in the world yet love our human failings."
More upbeat and fun, than 2003's dark SHOCK/DENIAL/ANGER/ACCEPTANCE,
Rick notes, "I think we should have called this CD 'Son of Working Class
Dog.' It has the same kind of songs (from a slightly older perspective)
and was as exciting to record ... ... writing and recording these songs
has been the most fun I've had in the studio since the early '80s."
WORKING CLASS DOG produced two of Rick's biggest hits, "Jessie's Girl"
and "I've Done Everything For You."
According to Rick, the title track, "Venus in Overdrive" is basically
about his wife Barbara. "She is the most loving person I have ever known
and she has accepted me with all my darkness and bumps and warts and
all."
The first single from VENUS IN OVERDRIVE is "What's Victoria's Secret?"
Rick says the title of the song "is one of those titles that was waiting
to be written and we just got there first. Matt came up with it and we
wrote the song while we were doing 5 nights of shows in Milwaukee. I had
some recording gear brought into my hotel room and we wrote it there at
the haunted Pfister hotel, room 804. It's basically about the
sexualization of women and how we as males, want that, but also resist
it and mainly need to connect to women as human beings. It's a dichotomy
that most men feel I think."
Two songs on the record, "Saint Sahara" and "Oblivious," pay tribute to
Sahara Aldridge, a young girl who frequently attended Rick's shows and
whom the entire band came to love and who recently passed away. Rick
explains that "Saint Sahara" "is about who Sahara was and how hard it
was to have her leave. It's also a celebration and recognition of the
people she affected in this world. Her mom said (before she died) that
if I were to write a song about her daughter, could I make it a
celebration and not something maudlin, so it's basically a song
celebrating her great sprit. 'Oblivious,' is the soul side of the song,
'Saint Sahara,' what we all felt and how we dealt with it. It is
sometimes so good to be numb to pain but life can't go on if you stay
numb all the time. The song itself is about the denial of the finality
of death, but it's still a love song."
As part of the promotional plan for the new album, Rick will be
returning to "General Hospital" in July as Dr. Noah Drake and his alter
ego rocker Eli Love. The storyline will reunite him with the characters
of Robin, Patrick and Anna as well as allow him to perform the single,
"What's Victoria's Secret?"

Nation is taking concert information and online ticket box office
directly to music fans where they live on the web.
"We strive to find music fans in their element, where they actively
engage in music, and connect them with their favorite artists wherever
they are in the world," says Bryan Perez, CEO Global Digital for Live
Nation. "With our new Facebook Platform application, users around the
world are able to create personalized global calendars, containing
touring and ticketing information about their favorite artists, right on
their Facebook page."
Music fans can register for My Live Nation at LiveNation.com. They can
then add My Live Nation to their Facebook profiles by clicking on
www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=9436892353 or by
searching in the Facebook applications directory for Live Nation, where
the Live Nation icon identifies the new application.
