● Carrie Underwood - Halftime Show:
Country music superstar Carrie Underwood
will be the featured performer for the tenth anniversary of the live,
nationally televised Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day halftime show to
officially kick off the annual Salvation Army 2006 Red Kettle Christmas
fundraising campaign, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced today.
Underwood, the American Idol winner, who was recently named Female
Vocalist of the Year at the 2006 Country Music Association (CMA) Awards,
will perform songs from her quadruple-platinum selling debut album, Some
Hearts, which contains three #1 country singles. Since Carrie Underwood
was
named the 2005 American Idol winner, she has collected numerous awards
including two wins at the CMA Awards and nominations at the upcoming
American Music Awards and People's Choice Awards. For the tenth
consecutive
year, the Red Kettle campaign will be launched as part of a special live
concert at Texas Stadium during the Cowboys' traditional holiday game.
This
year, the Cowboys play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the game will be
televised nationally on the Fox Network beginning at 3:15 CST, Thursday,
November 23.
"I am so glad to have the opportunity to spend Thanksgiving in Dallas
this year," said Ms. Underwood. "My family and I have been spectators
several times in the past, and now I am thrilled to be performing at
halftime this year! I look forward to teaming up with The Salvation Army
and the Dallas Cowboys for a great day. See you on the 23rd."
"Our halftime celebration at Texas Stadium has become a very unique and
visible part of the family holiday tradition that is Thanksgiving in
America," said Jones, the Cowboys' owner and general manager. "There's
not
a better way to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Red Kettle
Kickoff
than having all of us who support the special work of The Salvation Army
know that our collective efforts during the past decade will result in
the
one billionth dollar dropped in a kettle some place in America this
Christmas season."
Since 1997, the nationally televised Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game
halftime show has officially launched the Red Kettle Christmas Campaign
at
the national level. During this time period, the campaign has raised
nearly
$900 million to help more than 335 million people in communities
nationwide. Previous halftime performers have included Sheryl Crow,
Destiny's Child, Toby Keith, LeAnn Rimes, Creed, Jessica Simpson, Billy
Gillman, Clint Black, Randy Travis and Reba McEntire.
As part of the celebration, Ms. Underwood and Mr. Jones will be among
the first to make donations to the Red Kettles, which help to raise
money
for holiday toys, coats, rental and utility assistance, and many other
Salvation Army social services provided throughout the year.
"We continually see increased demand for our services and the annual
Red Kettle Campaign is a major reason why we are able to provide
assistance
to those in need in over 5,000 communities nationwide," said
Commissioner
Israel L. Gaither, National Commander of The Salvation Army. "We have
been
privileged over the years to have The Dallas Cowboys allow us this
tremendous national forum, and we are pleased that Carrie Underwood has
agreed to help us kick off the 2006 campaign."
From its humble beginnings as a fundraiser started by a Salvation Army
captain in San Francisco in 1891, the Red Kettle Campaign has grown into
one of the most recognizable and important charitable campaigns in the
United States. As part of the campaign, more than 25,000 Salvation Army
volunteers fan out across the country to ring bells and solicit spare
change donations to the iconic red kettles from holiday shoppers. In
2005,
the campaign raised a record $111 million nationwide, with nickels,
dimes,
quarters and dollars (and the occasional diamond ring or gold tooth) all
being returned to help those in the communities where they were raised.
Last year, the funds helped The Salvation Army to provide assistance to
more than 31 million Americans in need.
About The Salvation Army:
The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian
church, has been supporting those in need in His name without
discrimination since 1865. Over 31 million Americans receive assistance
from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social
services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for
disaster
victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill,
clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for
underprivileged
children. About 83 cents of every dollar raised is used to support those
services in more than 5,000 communities nationwide. For more

● Avril Lavigne - "Keep Holding On" (Island Listen & Reaction):
I had a chance to listen to the new Avril song today as it was playing on an online radio station. I have to say the song itself is pretty good for having been written directly for a movie. But this isn't the same Avril who released S8ter Boy years ago. This song features a lot of vocal blending which I found to be more Kelly Clarkson in style then Avril. Not only was her main vocal track blended but her backing vocals were as well. Some fans will be put off by the softness of the mood. While I'm at it I'll mention that there are some orchestral arrangements thrown in the background but again you have to remember this song was written specifically for a movie.
Avril has said that she's working on her next full length studio album. Though no time table has been set one would assume the disc would arrive sometime in '07. The indication is that this new song isn't how her new studio disc will sound like. I found that to be a relief as I was afraid Avril had gone more soft pop then pop rock but only time will tell.

● Carrie Underwood @ 4 Million:
Carrie Underwood's debut album, Some Hearts,
has been certified quadruple platinum for shipments of 4 million copies.
"There are so many people that have done so much -- songwriters,
producers, all the people at the label," Underwood said. "Country radio
has been awesome to me, and they've played my music, and people have
requested my songs and bought the albums and seen me in concert. I mean,
it takes 8 million people to sell 4 million copies! It's just amazing
what everybody has accomplished." The album includes two No. 1 singles
-- "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and "Before He Cheats."

● Bryan Adams - What Has He Been Up To? (Island Report):
After posting the "Bobby" soundtrack information a week ago, I've received quite a few emails. All basically asking where one could purchase the song "Never Gonna Break My Faith.” Here's the information we currently have about this song:
The song was co-written & co-produced by Bryan Adams.
The newly recorded single was recorded by Aretha Franklin and Mary J. Blige.
Franklin/Blige version appears on the soundtrack (does not contain Bryan's vocals)
Currently there are no plans to release the Bryan Adams version that can be heard in TV Spots & Online Movie Trailers. Things could change at some point as many Adams fans are asking for his version to be released.
It is a bit too late to have his vocal track added to the soundtrack but my feeling is we'll either see this song released as a single or as part of his album. So when will Bryan has a new album out? I can confirm that he will have a new disc out in 2007. Currently there is not a more specific release date.
If your looking for update to date information on Bryan the best place to check would be his MySpace page. www.myspace.com/bryanadamsmusic
For those who are interested in purchasing the Bobby soundtrack can do so by going to: www.amazon.com (Nov. 21st Release)

● Introducing "RIDER":
As we reported last month, Platinum Jar
split up. But as a result of their breakup a new project featuring the
former members has come together. RIDER born out of the ashes of the
split have been doing auditions, interview, song writing and rehearsals
to come together as a group.
The band will open their official website soon at:
www.riderband.co.uk
Currently their myspace page is open at
www.myspace.com/riderrevolution.
RIDER Bio:
It would be a crime to classify 'Rider' as simply another rock/funk
band.
Basically because, the 'Rider' sound is more impassioned and musically
exciting than most bands who attempt to break into this genre.
Formed in October 2006, the band was brought together by three brothers,
Jason, Aaron & Rich Lang, following their decision to move away from
their previous band of 12 years.
The concept was simple; to form a new band which would help them regain
their passion for music, song-writing and live performance.
After scouring the local circuit for two additional musicians to
complete the lineup, the band finally settled on Guitarist Simon Lee,
and Bassist Nathan Rainer.
The result was amazing; with the first rehearsal producing a wall of
sound that surprised each and every one of us...Rider was born.
The remainder of 2006 will see Rider writing and rehearsing tracks ready
for a debut album and tour for early 2007.
To be continued..

● Avril Lavigne - New Material?:
The following post was made by Avirl on her online blog and now also appears on her official website:
New Song for the movie 'Eragon'
Hey guys.
How's it going! I am in the studio right now as you know. Fox approached
me to write a song for their movie, "Eragon". They showed me the trailer
and talked about it. It's going to be a very big movie for them and
everyone is really excited. So I worked on a couple different ballad
type songs, and the one they ended up using is called, "Keep Holding
On".
This song was specifically written for the movie. It was challenging
writing lyrics that had to go exactly with the movie. It was a new
experience for me and I learned a lot.
I was writing about strength, power, and
destiny, while keeping in line with the story of the film. Dr. Luke also
worked with me on this track.
This song however, is no indication of what the rest of the record is
like. You guys are in for a big surprise. AND I CAN'T WAIT!!! Later,
Avril

● Sebastian Bach - New Material:
We mentioned before that Bach was working on new material for a 2007 release. Now Sebastian has posted the following information via his official website to keep fans in the loop.
Last Tuesday, we went to WCCC Radio in Hartford CT at 2 in the afternoon the day of show to perform 3 songs live, acoustic, in the studio. We did "Little Wing", "I Remember You", & the brand new song "By Your Side". It is always with some amount of trepidation that I enter into these situations live on the radio "without a net", not knowing the surroundings or how good the sound is gonna be. Well I am happy to say that the session went great & I am real happy with how the sound went out on the air live all over Connecticut. Check out "By Your Side" acoustic version... the album version is not acoustic but I am really digging how Metal Mike & Johnny Chromatic pulled this song off without drums or bass. This song was written by Roy Z & myself & will be on the new record coming out in 2007!

special "A Clay Aiken Christmas."
This exclusive Wal-Mart EP may signal the end of Aiken & RCA Records as
there's talk that his contract runs out with this release. The promotion
by RCA this year for Clay's recently release has been slim to none so it
makes perfect sense for him to shop his material elsewhere if he so
chooses. Look for Clay to go out on tour in '07 to promote his music.

● Kevin Cronin - New Newsletter:
Kevin Cronin updates fans via his website on 11/11. The main focus was on the upcoming Reo album. Below are snippets from the newsletter:
So I just finished setting up my studio for proper listening. I put away
a bunch of guitars, repositioned some monitors, centered my listening
chair properly between the speakers, etc.
I wrote “Smilin' In The End” here at home, at my kitchen table, in the
summer of 2004. What a cool feeling to sit here at home tonight, in my
home studio, cranking up the final mix. The room is sound proofed, but I
know that this music is resonating throughout my whole house…actually,
the whole neighborhood. Wow, there are people dancing in the street!
PS. Since I wrote the body of this letter, we nailed the mix for track
two, “Find Your Own Way Home”. I'm giving it a listen as I type. I'm
smiling. KC

● America - Here & Now:
In the midst of their fourth decade of music
making, America have been perennials on the concert circuit for 34
years, pleasing their loyal fan base and attracting new generations of
followers. The band's new 2-CD set, "Here & Now" is a spectacular
distillation of the group's signature sound past and present, comprising
one studio record of all new material and a second live disc taped at XM
Radio featuring renditions of songs found on the group's multi-platinum
greatest hits album, "History".
Their new studio album is a fresh blast of classic Americana shaped by
the contemporary sensibilities of producers Adam Schlesinger (Fountains
Of Wayne) and James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins) and features guests, Ryan
Adams, Ben Kweller, Ira Elliot and Matthew Caws (Nada Surf) and Jim
James and Patrick Hallahan (My Morning Jacket), Stephen Bishop and Mark
Rozzo (Maplewood). "One of the main attractions for Adam (Schlesinger)
and James (Iha) was their initial love of the America sound," explains
Gerry Beckley. "We have intentionally tried to keep that being the main
focus. We're not trying to emulate or go backwards but the initial
ingredients have always remained common to us, which were an abundance
of acoustic instrument sounds, a lot of vocal harmony and interesting
melodies and lyrics in the forefront." Dewey adds, "Adam and James are
terrific to work with. We've tried to maintain the elements of our own
traditions so those things haven't changed. We're not moving into
electronic music but there are a few quirky things on the album. We're
doing a few outside tracks including "Always Love" by Nada Surf."
The album looks to be released January 16th 2007. But you don't have to
wait till then to hear what the album will sound like. I've added links
below where you can listen to some samples, view a video with interviews

● Fair Ground - Down In It:
The time has finally arrived! Pete Lesperance & Mike Turner release "Down In It."
Fair Ground is the culmination of years of friendship between Pete Lesperance and Mike Turner, two Canadian guitarists, who have sold millions world-wide in their respective projects Harem Scarem and Our Lady Peace. What began as a simple guest appearance on Pete's solo record turned into a desire to fully collaborate on what was to become Fair Ground's debut Down In It. The album was recorded at Lesperance's and Turner's own studios with the two sharing production duties. Mixing was handled by Harry Hess at Vespa Studios. Over the past few years, Lesperance and Turner have enjoyed writing, producing and developing new artists, but both agree that there is no replacement for playing live. "We'd always wanted to play together, but the catch was I had to become a singer to play with Mike", jokes Lesperance. From the instantly recognizable opening refrain of Down In It to the powerhouse chorus of Boy Without a Clue to the soaring harmonies of Nameless there's no doubt that the songs will stay with you long after first listening. Drawing on their diverse backgrounds and unique musical personas Fair Ground create their own brand of radio ready modern rock.
Soundclips & ordering information can be found at: http://cdbaby.com/cd/fairground. The disc is currently $13.99

● "Bobby" - The Soundtrack:
Underscoring one of the most tragic,
life-changing events in American history – the assassination of Senator
Robert Kennedy at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles in June 1968 – as
envisioned by director/screenwriter Emilio Estevez in the upcoming movie
BOBBY, Island Def Jam will release the original motion picture
soundtrack album showcasing music by the premiere artists of the 1960s.
The movie (from the Weinstein Company and MGM) will open in New York
and Los Angeles on Friday, November 17th, and the album will arrive in
stores the following Tuesday, November 21st. The movie will then have
its wide release to more than 1,500 screens on Thanksgiving Day,
November 23rd.
Heralding the soundtrack album - and the movie - is “Never Gonna Break
My Faith,” a newly recorded single by Aretha Franklin and Mary J. Blige,
co-written and co-produced by Bryan Adams. The song is currently heard
on BOBBY’s theatrical trailer, which premiered on Yahoo!.
“More than any other time in our history, the most memorable recordings
from the 1960s reflected upon and influenced our culture,” said Antonio
“L.A.” Reid, Chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group. “Aretha and Mary’s
uplifting rendition of ‘Never Gonna Break My Faith,’ along with the
historic cast assembled for this soundtrack album – sum up all our hopes
and dreams for a better world.”
After an introductory excerpt from a speech by RFK, the BOBBY soundtrack
album opens with “Never Gonna Break My Faith,” followed by nearly a
dozen touchstones from the era: “Tracks Of My Tears” (Smokey Robinson &
the Miracles), “Come See About Me” (the Supremes), “Function At The
Junction” (Shorty Long), “I Was Made To Love Her” (Stevie Wonder),
“Tuesday Afternoon” (Moody Blues), “Black Is Black” (Los Bravos), “Ain’t
That Peculiar” (Marvin Gaye), “Baby I Love You” (Aretha Franklin),
“Grazing In The Grass” (Hugh Masekela), “Louie Louie” (newly-recorded by
Demi Moore for her role in the film), and “The Sound Of Silence” (Simon
& Garfunkel). The album also includes two tracks of award-winning
composer Mark Isham’s original score, the last of which underpins RFK’s
“Mindless Menace Of Violence” speech.
Already being touted on the fast track for Academy Award consideration,
BOBBY was written and directed by Emilio Estevez. The film follows 22
people who are at the Ambassador Hotel for different purposes but share
the common thread of anticipating RFK’s arrival at the Democratic
Primary election night party, which would change their lives forever.
This historic night is set against the backdrop of difficult social
issues gripping the country at the time, including racism, sexual
inequality and class differences.
Among the all-star cast of BOBBY is Anthony Hopkins, Demi Moore, Sharon
Stone, Lindsay Lohan, Harry Belafonte, Elijah Wood, William H. Macy,
Helen Hunt, Christian Slater, Laurence Fishburne, Freddy Rodriguez,
Ashton Kutscher, Nick Cannon, Emilio Estevez, Shia LaBeouf, and Martin
Sheen.

Van Halen - Returning In 07? (Island Report):
Well if you haven't heard by now, according to some Van Halen will
return in 2007 with David Lee Roth. Though Roth himself hasn't confirmed
this information nor has Van Halen camp officially announced anything.
The real question isn't so much about who the lead singer will be but
who will play bass? Considering that Michael Anthony is currently
touring with Sammy Hagar one would assume Michael wouldn't want to go
back to Van Halen. Very true! We can confirm that Eddie's son Wolfgang
will in fact be taking over the spot. Some will remember him from the
2004 tour where he came out and played with his father Eddie. We've been
talking about this information for a while behind the scenes and unless
things drastically change in the Van Halen camp, as of right now
Wolfgang is the new bass player. Eddie, Alex and Wolfgang has been
working in the studio lately though once again no official announcements
have been made and still no mention of a lead singer being there during
the studio sessions. So far there's also been no mention of new Van
Halen material though one would have to assume there has to be some
considering they can't put out another Greatest Hits package so soon
after the last one, though nothing is impossible in today's music world.
More information coming soon.

● Def Leppard/Journey - Auction:
VH1 Classic has partnered with Def Leppard and Journey to auction off a
custom, autographed motorbike. The bike, designed by Cory Ness of Arlen
Ness Motorcycles, is signed by each member of both bands. Now through
Nov. 22 online users can visit
www.vh1auctions.com
to bid on this rock-n-roll machine. Proceeds from the auction will be
donated to Cure Autism Now (CAN).
"We are humbled by the generosity of these two legendary bands and VH1
Classic's commitment to raising awareness and funding for autism," says
Peter Bell, president and CEO of Cure Autism Now.
Beginning today, VH1 Classic will air promos about the auction showing
Neal Schon of Journey and Joe Elliott of Def Leppard test-driving the
bike. As the sponsor of the current Def Leppard/Journey tour, VH1
Classic will also include auction signage at each of the concert venues
during upcoming tour stops.
"VH1 Classic is happy to harness the power of these two iconic bands and
Arlen Ness Motorcycles to help drive awareness and research of this
rapidly growing disorder," says Eric Sherman, senior vice president and
general manager, VH1 Classic and VH1 Digital Networks.
The bands are equally excited about this unique fundraiser, which
enables them to lend their voices to the fight against autism.
"The custom Journey/Def Leppard bike that Arlen Ness Motorcycles created
is one bad-ass, wicked-mean bike with all the frills and best parts that
money can buy. A lucky fan will own this bad boy in just a few weeks.
Best of all, the money is going to Cure Autism Now," says Neal Schon of
Journey.
"I concur with Neal that this is not just a bike but an absolute work of
art ... some lucky person is going to own this bike and I will be
forever jealous of the fact that it won't be me! But I will take some
comfort in the knowledge that the money we raise will be going to such a
worthy cause," says Joe Elliot of Def Leppard.
Cory Ness of Arlen Ness Motorcycles, who worked with Schon and Elliott
on the design of the bike, was thrilled to have the opportunity to
create both a tribute to these legendary musicians and a first-class
cruiser.
"It was an honor and privilege to build a motorcycle for these rock
icons. Neal Schon and Joe Elliott not only rock, they know how to design
a motorcycle," said designer Cory Ness. "This bike not only rocks, it
rolls! Someone is going to own a piece of history."

Y&T DVD:
A HUGE thanks to everyone who braved the extreme heat of the venue and
had their faces melted for the DVD shoot on October 8 in Zoetermeer,
The Netherlands. People came from all over Europe, the UK (and even
the States!) to be a part of the first-ever Y&T DVD! Thank you for
making it a FANTASTIC show!
The DVD will be released in late spring/early summer 2007. Check the
web site often for "sneak preview" clips of the upcoming DVD. And be
sure to check out the Discussion Forum from time to time for updated
DVD information posted by Dave Meniketti.
RE-MASTERS FOR THE HOLIDAYS!:
Earthshaker and In Rock We Trust re-mastered CDs will be here by
Christmas! Great liner notes written by the band, bonus track, and
the first time ever released domestically on CD for Earthshaker, make
these two re-issues extra special. These CDs will be available only
through this web site and at Y&T concerts.
Check the Merchandise page of the web site later this month to get
yours by Christmas, and be sure to frequent the web site Discussion
Forum for updated information posted by Dave Meniketti.
RESCUE ME:
We're happy to announce that Y&T's song "Rescue Me" will appear in an
episode of the television show "America's Funniest Home Videos" this
season. We don't have the air date yet, but we've been told it's
slated for use in a segment that will air either this fall or spring
'07.
