● i-94 New Album "Control":
Los Angeles and London: combined the two
music Mecca's have been responsible for half the greatest songs of the
last four decades. So it's only fitting that when you merge the two into
one musical metropolis you get I-94, three English ex-pats and a L.A.
musician, who take songwriting to new levels.
The quartet is back on the scene with a new record, CONTROL, which is
packed tight with songs that would sound great coming out of your car
speakers, computer, iPod, or wherever, right next to U2, Snow Patrol,
Coldplay and Switchfoot.
i-94's previous album, "Don't Get Nervous", had 2 top 5 hits on Yahoo's
Launch Cast Radio in 2005 and early 2006 on the Adult Alternative
station with "Go Back In Time" and "Not Alone" (reached 3) above artists
such as Rob Thomas, Maroon 5, Coldplay, Collective Soul, Nickelback,
Three Doors Down, Fall Out Boy, Finger Eleven. i-94 followed "Don't Get
Nervous" with an acoustic c.d "Acoustic Sessions" released in summer
2006, also available on Cdbaby.com and iTunes
Hollywood has taken notice. The foursome's songwriting has caught the
attention of many Music Supervisors. Among the movies and TV series that
have featured the songs of i-94 are, "Men In Tress" (ABC), MTV's "Laguna
Beach", "The Hills", "Road Rules" and "Road Rules Challenge" (the band
is now featured on MTV.com), A & E's "Roller Girls", National Lampoon's
"Half Baked", ABC,s "Cutting Edge 2", TLC,s "LA Riding Club", Showtime's
"Reversal Of Fortune"," Smallville,""Six Feet Under","Without A
Trace","Crossing Jordan", and multiple Lifetime TV movies.
While the band is thankful to have the support of Hollywood and to see
their music on the big and little screen so much, they also hope that
fans will take the opportunity to discover i-94 in their natural
habitat: on stage "As a philosophy you seem to have radio-driven bands
and then you have bands that focus on the live thing. We intend to do
both", says drummer Martin. "Be the band that is played on the radio and
are touring all over the country simultaneously".
On their new record, CONTROL, i-94 reveals the full range of their
musical dynamic from the fragile, intimate song, "BROKEN", to the
swaggering sass of "KISS ME" and crunching, energetic rockers like
"PHONY SUPERSTAR" and "ALIBI". With tracks such as "SOMEWHERE ELSE",
"BREATHE" and "LOSING BATTLE" the band serve up powerful anthems with
epic style. Yet, they also show a more mellow side to their music as
displayed in the haunting guitar of "SOMETHING SO WRONG" and the sweet
arpeggio piano of "PLEASE". These songs have an addictive quality that
is further amplified by well annunciated lyrics delivered by Arnell. His
velvety, smooth voice soothes the ear, while he adjusts it slightly to
add a bit of grit and kicks it up for higher register crooning, still
glowing with intensity.
The name of the album, CONTROL, has great significance for the band
because "we felt that this time we had the chance to operate with
complete creative independence in every aspect of making this record.
Ironically the song "Control" is actually the opposite. It's a very
melancholic, emotionally driven song about the loss of control and the
feelings of helplessness it brings", says Cheadle. From being multi
instrumentalists with Danny and Matt creating and playing string and
keyboard parts and Angelo playing mellotron, to the engineering,
production and mixing skills of Arnell to creating the artwork it was
completely self contained. They recorded and finished this record for
absolutely no money, using no studio outboard gear, just plug ins on Pro
Tools MAC OS 9 and 10. "This album shows that all you need is a vision
and pair of ears", laughs Arnell.
i-94 formed in 2002 when band mates Mark and Danny (formally of
Bottlefly and signed to Universal) brought in bassist Angelo, and once
they hooked up with guitarist Matt, who was a friend from the U.K., the
current line-up of I-94 was born.
Despite the fact the band are modern road warriors, having played around
the world, and living for the chance to get on stage, the name i-94
doesn't have a thing to do with the interstate highway. "It's the
immigration/visa waiver form you have to fill out to get into the U.S.
as a non-resident. It's called an I-94"For more information check out

Manilow Had One Heck Of A Year:
2006 has been an incredible record-breaking year for Manilow. His brand
new album THE GREATEST SONGS OF THE SIXTIES released October 31st was
certified gold by the RIAA, exactly one month from its street date. This
is the first time since 1981 for Manilow to have two albums of new
material certify gold in the same calendar year, and his SIXTIES album
hits the gold mark faster than his Fifties album released January 31st.
In addition, his best-selling greatest hits
collection, Ultimate Manilow (Arista, 2002) was just certified double
platinum yesterday and was voted the artist of the month for December on
MSN.com with a landslide 91% of votes over other chart topping
contenders Jay-Z, Foo Fighters, Lucinda Williams and Tenacious D.
With the release of GREATEST SONGS OF THE SIXTIES, Manilow enjoyed an
unprecedented record launch which garnered him the biggest sales week of
his career when it debuted on the Billboard Top 200 at #2 with 201,904
copies sold, a 30% sales increase over his Fifties album released just 9
months before. THE GREATEST SONGS OF THE SIXTIES is his 13-song tribute
that arrived in stores on October 31st and the follow-up to the RIAA
platinum The Greatest Songs Of The Fifties, the first album in Barry
Manilow's career to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart upon
its release this year on January 31st. Manilow is the only artist of
2006 to have two albums debut in the top 2 chart positions in the same
calendar year.
The two current Fifties and Sixties albums mark the winning reunion in
the studio for co-producers Manilow and Clive Davis, Arista founder and
BMG U.S. Chairman & CEO. THE GREATEST SONGS OF THE SIXTIES also caps one
of the most remarkable years of Manilow's long and storied career, which
includes the success of 2006's The Greatest Songs From The Fifties (his
first #1 chart album in nearly three decades), the renewal extension of
his exclusive performing contract with the Las Vegas Hilton Theater ("Manilow:
Music & Passion") through 2008, and winning his second career Emmy Award
(this past August), when "Manilow: Music & Passion" was awarded
Outstanding Individual Performance In A Variety Or Music Program.
Each song on THE GREATEST SONGS OF THE SIXTIES is a classic in its own
right from "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" (1965) to "And I Love Her"
(1964), "When I Fall In Love" (1962) to three Burt Bacharach classics:
"Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" (1969), "What The World Needs Now Is
Love" (1965) and "This Guy's In Love With You" (1968). Like the '60s
itself, the album covers many genres, from "There's A Kind Of Hush (All
Over The World)" (1967), to "Blue Velvet" (1963), to "Everybody Loves
Somebody Sometime" (1964), "Can't Help Falling In Love" (1962),
"Strangers In The Night" (1966), and the album's first single "Can't
Take My Eyes Off You" (1967). One of the highlights of the album is a
great duet with The Association of their two #1 hits "Cherish" (1966)
and "Windy" (1967).
With worldwide record sales exceeding 75 million, his work as a singer, songwriter, arranger and producer over the course of more than 40 albums has earned Barry Manilow the highest honors. He sits on the Board of Governors of the National Academy of Jazz, and in June 2002, he was inducted into the National Academy of Popular Music's Songwriters Hall of Fame, alongside Ashford & Simpson, Michael Jackson, Randy Newman, and Sting. In addition to his own foundation, the Manilow Fund for Health and Hope, other involvements include The Prince's Trust, United Way, the Starlight Foundation, numerous organizations fighting the battle against AIDS, and many others. He is the national spokesperson for the Foundation Fighting Blindness, Honorary Chairman of the Palm Springs Art Museum and a Founder of the Music Center of Los Angeles.

GNR - March 6, 2007?:
Four shows on the hard rock band's current tour have been canceled and
its first album of original music since 1991 will not come out this
year, as singer Axl Rose had promised.
But "Chinese Democracy" will tentatively see the light of day March 6,
Rose said in an open letter to fans Thursday, the first time a release
date has ever been given for the troubled project.
"We would like to assure the fans that though tentative everything in
our power will be done to meet this date," Rose said. "Once it is
finalized and official you will be notified. If we are delayed for
unseen reasons you will also be notified as soon as possible in regard
to a new date and the album will be released as shortly thereafter as is
possible."
In order to focus on getting the album out, Guns N' Roses has scrapped
dates that were set for Jan. 10 in Sacramento, Jan. 11 in Bakersfield,
Jan. 13 in Reno, and Jan. 16 in San Diego. The tour will accordingly end
next Wednesday, the final date of three at the Gibson Amphitheatre in
Los Angeles.

● SAMI - Somewhere Over The Rainbow:
While doing some reading today I came across a press release that had the heading "Somewhere Over The Rainbow Is Revived." Curious I decided to read it, what I found was that all information and opinions about SAMI's material was spot on. Read the press release for yourself and then head on over to his website and listen to his material. Somewhere Over The Rainbow is clearly one of the most recognized songs in music history and trust me SAMI does the classic song justice. - Tony
SAMI (Masazumi Aso) has released his new
single "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" (AC #29) from HMG Nashville (Power
Source) to Adult Contemporary radio and other stations.
His piano playing style and uniquely arranged music has created many
obstacles on his way to success, but through hard work and commitment,
SAMI has found his way into America's heart.
He started playing and studying music at the age of five and continued
through his formative years at the recommendation of Ms. Aiko Iguchi of
the To-Ho Music College as well as under the tutelage of one of Japan's
leading professors Mr. A. Odaka of the Tokyo Art University.
Since arriving on American shores, SAMI had a Strong desire to learn
more and become a professional musician. He received his Masters in
Music from the University of Texas on March 8, 2004. He is quoted as
saying, "My music comes from a very deep spiritual place inside. It is
like a big explosion of the passion of my life."
His album "Feelings" includes three original and nine arranged pieces
based on the worlds most famous and favorite songs. The three original
pieces are composed by Mr. George Arriola. "C'mon Play Along" is using
George's original style with up tempo rhythm to invite the audience to
participate in the music. "SAMI's Land" started with a Reggie type of
theme and added Latin rhythms to spice up the flavor. "Learning to Fly
Again" was written as a testament to the freedom in one's life.
His album also includes the unbelievable rendition of the classic
"Somewhere Over The Rainbow". This unique version is being serviced
together with "SAMI's Land" (No. 16 on Top 20 hits chart) and "C'mon
Play Along" to Adult Contemporary radio and other stations. It is
already creating a stir finding a home with all generations, those young
and very young at heart.
Other notable selections on his album "Feelings" include the Michael
Legrand, penned "Les Parapluies de Cherbourg" and the popular title
track "Feelings". With gentle oboe, guitar and strings as accompaniment
throughout the record, these selections are the perfect compliment to
SAMI's style.
SAMI's piano music has a very emotional and spiritual sense. When he
starts to play, the piano becomes alive. SAMI and his piano are united
in one body, expressing to the audience his innermost feelings. The
arrangements for the other nine songs were based on SAMI's piano, with
other orchestration added to put more color and flavor to the total
sound, enhancing the over all expression.
SAMI will be doing selected dates to promote and support his "Feelings"
CD, which was just released in 2006 and is now available in stores and
on-line worldwide. Check your local newspaper for his performance dates.
This powerful artist is speaking to the world as a whole..... and be
sure to listen.

Steve Perry - Off The Record Recap (Island Report):
As we mentioned several times over the past month and a half, Steve
Perry would be on the program "Off The Record" December 9th-10th. The
main focus was on the recent Reissues/Remasters of Journey/Perry
material. A lot of the questions that had come up where focused on past
events as to be expected. There were mentions of Perry not being able to
let things go and he's been writing again. The best part of the show was
when Uncle Joe played the new Guff track "I Can See It In Your Eyes."
(Anyone who has purchased the Trial By Fire reissue this year can listen
to the Journey version of that song.) Steve sang an echo backing vocal
through-out the song. As Joe said "Can't Fake Those Pipes!"
Uncle Joe did press Perry on the fact that he's physically ready to tour & even went as far to ask when will he begin auditioning for band members. Perry simply replied "Soon" of course followed by the classic Perry laugh. So while there are once again mentions of Perry getting back in the game there's been no hard evidence to this point except for these bits and pieces of news. Will Perry tour in 2007? Will he release new material in 2007? Only Steve Perry Knows.. Either way it was great to hear from "The Voice" yet again.

● Remembering John Lennon & Darrell Abbott:
John Ono Lennon, was an iconic 20th century English rock and roll
songwriter and singer, who gained worldwide fame as the founder of The
Beatles. He and fellow-Beatle Paul McCartney formed the massively
successful Lennon-McCartney songwriting partnership throughout the
1960s, writing songs for The Beatles and other artists to record.
Lennon's songwriting was often full of pain and hope. His melodies were
at times beautiful and at times dark. His lyrics reflected his personal
and career demands, philosophical outlook, his unease with his fame, and
current events. As a writing pair, Lennon's hard-edged and McCartney's
optimistic styles complemented one another. The Beatles, largely under
Lennon and McCartney's influence and with their record producer George
Martin, revolutionised rock music with their lyrics, instrumentation,
harmony, and electronic effects, changing the nature of popular music at
the time and paving the way for the music of the 1970s, 1980s and
beyond. In his solo career distinct from The Beatles, Lennon wrote and
recorded songs that became icons of the age, such as "Imagine" and "Give
Peace a Chance".
Lennon, on television and in films such as A Hard Day's Night (1964),
and by press conferences and interviews, revealed his rebellious,
iconoclastic nature and quick, irreverent wit. He channeled his fame and
penchant for controversy into his work as a peace activist, artist and
author.
He had one son, Julian, with his first wife, Cynthia; he later married
his second wife, avant-garde artist Yoko Ono, and they had one son,
Sean. John Lennon was murdered in New York City on December 8, 1980 by a
deranged fan, as he and Ono returned home from a recording session; he
was, and continues to be, mourned throughout the world.
Every 8 December - the anniversary of his death - there is a memorial in
front of Capitol Records on Vine Street in Hollywood, California. It
includes speakers discussing Lennon, musical tributes, and group
singing. A similar gathering takes place every year on his birthday, as
well as on the anniversary of his death, at Strawberry Fields.
Darrell Lance Abbott was born in Arlington, Texas, to country
songwriter Jerry Abbott. His father owned a recording studio, Pantego
Sound Studios, in Pantego, Texas, where Darrell had seen many blues
guitarists play, but it was not until hearing Ace Frehley of KISS play
that he wanted to start playing guitar himself. At first, he wanted to
play the drums. However, after discovering that he wasn't as good as his
brother Vinnie Paul, he decided to try the guitar instead, likewise was
the situation with his brother - starting with guitar he discovered
quickly he was no good at it, and soon turned to the percussion area of

● Remembering Pearl Harbor:
On the morning of December 7, 1941, planes and midget submarines of the Imperial Japanese Navy began a surprise attack on the U.S. under the command of Vice Admiral Chuichi Nagumo. It has to be remarked that the attack might have been no surprise as vital intelligence information about the imminent attack was not passed to the Navy commander Admiral Husband E. Kimmel and Army commander Walter Short. This attack brought the United States into World War II. At 6:00 a.m. on December 7, the six Japanese carriers launched a first wave of 183 planes composed of torpedo bombers, dive-bombers, level bombers and fighters. The Japanese hit American ships and military installations at 7:53 a.m. They attacked military airfields and at the same time they hit the fleet anchored in Pearl Harbor. Overall, twenty-one ships of the U.S. Pacific fleet were damaged and the death toll reached 2,403 with 1,178 injured.
For additional information you can watch the many news stations today for their anniversary coverage. CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS & Others.

● Deborah Gibson - "Christmas Without You":
A few days ago Deborah Gibson posted a new demo on her MySpace page. A
fun Christmas song called "Christmas Without You." Remember that this is
a demo version. I've listened Deborah's comments below:
Hello all my new friends! To get you in the holiday mood here is a song
I wrote - keep in mind it is a demo so at times my vocal sounds a bit
rugged (and a bit whiny in my opinion!) And, I didn't say it was a GOOD
mood it would put you in....maybe a sentimental one, if you are far from
a loved one. With all that said, I do like this little ditty and hope
you do! This My Space stuff is so much fun!

The first Christmas song from The Killers, “A Great Big Sled,” is a part
of (PRODUCT) RED. The song will be available at the iTunes Store on
Tuesday, December 5th, with 100% of proceeds from sales going to The
Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
You can listen to the full track via

7th.
A statement from the band posted on NME.com (Nov. 30th)
"We've had to make the terrible decision to cancel tonight's show in
Dublin since we've fallen foul to the dreaded 'flu bug. Brandon has
bronchitis and is unable to sing. We're devastated to have to disappoint
so many people, but it's simply impossible for us to go ahead with the
gig.
We've had some of our favourite shows in Ireland, 2004's Oxegen Festival
was the best ever, and we were really excited to be finishing our
European tour with tonight's show at The Point. It was set to be the
biggest show on the tour and we know the Dublin audience would have made
it spectacular...
We're so sorry, Dublin. We'll find a way to make it up to you, we
promise!"
