Genre: Melodic Rock / Classic Rock
Track Listing: Walk The Sky is: Rick Hunter-Martinez - Guitar/Vocals. Rob Bonstin - Vocals. Jeff Lemas - Drums. Tom Young - Bass.
1. Castles In The Sand - Right out of the gates a full blown rocker. In your face guitars with a killer drum-line. As soon as I heard the vocals one band came to mind, Blanc Faces. The style of the lead vocals is very similar, though the guitars are even more potent on this track then on anything Blanc Faces has released up to this point. If your a fan of dynamite riffs then this one is for you. Overall rocker sound compared to Dokken/FireHouse. 2. Lay It On The Line - The guitar solo was really hooked me in on this track as it brings that classic rock sound to the table and takes you for an emotional ride. Bill Leverty live concert solo's come to mind. The lyrics are edgy and catch, you'll be singing along in no time. This is a perfect track to be done live in concert. Even the studio track has the raw live feel which is more than welcomed. 3. Don't You Know What Love Is - Heavy guitars move this track along nicely as this track isn't a full rocker, it's mid tempo ballad. The backing vocals are dead on brilliant. They showcase every band member perfectly. Another extremely catchy track it's not a sappy love song, that's for sure.
4. Snake Eyes - I found myself
thinking this sounded like a Scorpions track. Dead on brilliant, a
hard edged with an attitude track. Everything from the vocals to the
backing drums have a darker groove which really shows off this bands
true talent. Being able to switch between a mid tempo track to a
full blown hard rocker. I'm into visualization and the easiest way I
can put it is, this track would fit perfectly with the show Las
Vegas, "Snake Eyes". 6. Face To Face - Here's my favorite track, a bit in the range of say Boston as far as sound goes. But here's what makes this track stand out. The backing vocal build up is dead on amazing, the lead vocals are mixed so that as soon as the high note is hit the backing vocals are perfectly in tune making the sound mind-blowing. Not to mention yet again the catchy lyrics, it's another one of those songs that if played live would have a crowd on their feet.7. Make Up Your Mind - Guitars open up this one, bring a Zeppelin / Aerosmith sound to the table. More or less a feel good track that is just straight forward, though I didn't find it to be as amazing as past tracks it does have it's high points. The change up in the guitar sound was definitely a nice surprise. 8. Touched By You - You can't have a rock album without at least 1 classic sounding ballad. A soft track with a different vocalist, does it work? Yes I think it does. While I do love the main vocalist from past tracks, I did find myself pausing thinking is this the same guy? But after a couple listens I found this track to be one of the best on the album because of the changes made. It's not a full rocker, the guitars don't sound the same and the vocal duties were passed to another. Overall I loved it, I just didn't care for the ending fadeout but it is understandable when you consider the track is a little over 4 minutes in length.9. Heart Of Stone - Is this the same track that Cher did years ago? Heck No, Heart Of Stone bring back the original vocalist from prior tracks before track 8. Also back is the heavy guitars and power punched sound. The feel I got was classic rock and reminded me of Dokken no doubt. So fans of Dokken will be intrigued here because even the guitar solo has that overall Dokken kick. 10. What You Need - Styx came to mind here simply because of the swagger presented in the drum-line as well as the vocals. Another track that really has that harder sound but is presented in such a way that nothing is overpowering and allows the listen to be drawn in. 11. Love Comes Down - Rounding out this rock album is none other then another rocker! The opening guitar riffs reminded me of classic Neal Schon riffs. This is basically a track for those diehard guitar lovers. Usually the vocals are centered on tracks but this time around Walk The Sky went a different route by showcasing the guitars. Amazing licks that rocked till the very end, great way to end the album.
In modern times, classic sounding bands seem to get lost in the shuffle. Walk The Sky is an amazing new band that brings back the classic sound rock fans have been looking for. +'s (Positives) + Classic Sound: Bringing back the sound of the 70's & 80's is a warm welcome to my ears. + Lyrics: Some amazing writing, there are some that are extremely catchy and then there's some that make you step back and go wow check out the story being put forth. -'s (Negatives) - Some Guitar Parts Sound The Same: This isn't really a bad thing as everything did flow nicely. But some of the tracks did sound the same in places, but then again it's familiarity that makes this band amazing.
One of those lost gems, this album has that classic raw feel. There isn't any big name members or big labels pushing the promotion for Walk The Sky as they are Indie and should be proud of it. This album had it been released in the mid-80's would have in my opinion had some hit singles and even a few music videos. An amazing band that more people should look into. Walk The Sky shows what was good with music and how it can be applied today and bring back the sound that we all truly love. Amazing work gentlemen!
